ThrowinDemBows presents Haunted Coast This is the version that won Forge Hub's "Hub of the Dead II" contest. Spoiler Here is a version I'm attempting to get into the Living Dead playlist. It is a smaller version and it's better suited for match making standards. Download MM Version Spoiler
Is the entire map outdoors? I can't quite get sense of what it is besides a sectioned off part of Tempest with minimal forging with pieces other than natural.
Just a heads-up if this gets into MM: Lots of people who play Living Dead might despise this map due to lack of camping (and the fact that its on Tempest). But seriously, I like this map a little, even though Lynx said there is not much to the map other than natural pieces. I hope to see this in MM soon!
Honestly, what I think. How could this win Hub of the dead? I've seen a lot of excellent maps for submission, this looks like exactly what Frozen said. Then again, I can't really grip what the map truly looks like in the pictures. Although I do hope this gets in matchmaking, we need forged maps in there, I hope 343 shows Living Dead the attention it deserves.
I'm intrigued, but from the pictures it does look just like a sectioned off section of Tempest with minimal forging, if you guys had a video or more screenshots I think it would do it some justice.
I had the same thought about the lack of camping on many of the infection maps being considered for MM submission. My map specifically had camping spots and I was told I should eliminate them. No way!! That is what makes Living Dead so fun for so many!! If it has no camping spot, then it simply isn't Living Dead... As for the minimal forging, one must remember that a requirement being pushed for the infection submissions is 4 split screen capable, which means lean on the blocks... Personally, I like this map... My only complaint about this map is that it is small, which means that after a few dozen games on it, people may be bored with it. There are other maps that are far larger and they would keep people looking for new places to hold up, camp, etc. for many months...
I've tested a few different iterations of this map now, and it's only gotten better. Gameplay does seem concentrated toward one end of the map (located at standard-Tempest's center), but it doesn't get particularly stale. The map does seem a wee bit cozy, but not so much as to feel confined and claustrophobic. My favourite kinds of Infection maps are those that break the mold -- those that eschew the tried, true, and tired cliches of cramped, indoor corridors with dark, gloomy nighttime lighting; in favor of more natural, serene scenery and calm coloration. Haunted Coast is definitely very natural, and the Next Gen version is much calmer. I like this map. The screenshots do make it very difficult to tell, but the Forging isn't minimal and the changes that have been made result in big changes to gameplay despite how basic some of them look. The newer iterations of the MM version are much more balanced than the versions I played during and shortly after Hub of the Dead II. Side note/off-topic reply (@Green): Spoiler Aye, but that's missing the point. Some people play Living Dead and Infection maps because they like Infection, and others play LD because they like One-Sided SWAT-Magnum Duck-Hunt Exploitacular 2011. Imbalanced camp spots outright screw over people who play Infection maps for Infection, and cause maps to cater more-or-less exclusively to map abusers; I personally consider their use outside of a testing session to be tantamount to griefing. Purging the map of camp spots that sabotage gameplay would only drive away the exploiters, and both Infection lobbies and Living Dead would be better off without them. There's also the fact that camp spots cause gameplay to grow stale extremely quickly, while a balanced map with no camp spots promotes even movement and causes Humans to try their hand at surviving in different locations -- increasing variety and causing the map to be fun and different for a longer time. Don't confuse "camp spot" (imbalanced broken location) with "defensible position" (area that is reasonably possible to defend), though. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the latte-- Wait, deja vu. Have we made our respective points before?
This map is well forged and pretty fun to play on, but it seems my friends and I found a really big camping spot. If you get up on top of that metal fin on one side of the map, you can easily pull out your magnum and get yourself some really easy kills. (Check out the last picture of the original map to see what I mean...)
I, as a like many or all of you, am a big infection lover, but let's be honest, as a zombie, camping gets old and frustrating, so humans, with little else to hide but atop a rock or wall, or standing in a corner makes it equal for the both of the sides. Yes, as a human, camping is the best thing you can do and the only thing most people will do. Places like on Sword Base, that vent, or way up high on that wall (before they put up the soft-kill), those places were a little unfair. Ok, well mostly just on top of that wall. As a human, I prefer to camp, because I never want to turn my back, but it just makes it more difficult for zombies... Anyways, I rant in circles to much. Overall, this looks like a good map and I hope it gets into matchmaking!
