NOTE: Comparison pics made by HITtheLIGHTZ sketchup design: HITtheLIGHTZ forging and additional design: squidhands Gameplay Vids: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=56RJ85FvPPQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PxD5t8YmAOcDownload Harmony Download Discord (1v1 Gametype) This is the finished 1v1 map based on HITtheLIGHTZ's sketchup which takes great inspiration from the UT3 map Shangri-La (note: this is not a remake. Stop saying "great remake". It's not.). I’ve done everything I can to stay as close to the original design (because it’s awesome) while adding a few touches of my own where I thought it was needed. Harmony is an asymmetrical map, and the overall geometry has been utilized to provide proper movement and protection. For the 1v1 version, we went with the major components of Zanno’s Greenhouse weapon layout: 2 snipers, OS and Camo, all on short respawn timers to provide the players some extra incentive to move through the map. Since he's still (constantly) working on his gametype, I'm posting one that is very similar to his but with 90% recharge rate. It's very necessary to download the gametype so that the Custom properties work as they should. View of Snipe Tower Carbine Bridge In keeping with the UT3 theme, I also added a "jump pad" of sorts to allow another access way to the bridge/OS room from the floor. Graveyard Camo Room Bridge Plat Green Bridge The column in the last pic may look a little odd, but it serves a very good purpose. Taking some of Zanno's advice, I gave the column a slot in it to shoot through from certain angles. It's worked out to be pretty sweet; some clutch snipes can be had. OS Room Another thing that was added with Tak's suggestion were some tactical jumps. It's possible to get to the OS from the floor of the window room, and you can also jump up to the sniper walkway from the lower platform. 1v1 Weapon Inventory: 2 - Sniper Rifles, 45sec/0 clips 6 - Battle Rifles, 10sec/2 clips 2 - Carbines, 10sec/1 clip 6 - Frag Grenades, 30sec 6 - Plasma Grenades, 30sec 1 - Yellow OS, 45sec, no start 1 - Camo, 60sec, no start A team version is also available, and can play up to 3v3. More than that is no longer competitive in any way, shape or form. This version has more of a Matchmaking variety of weapons, and is set up for Slayer (recommended), One Flag/Bomb, Oddball, KOTH, and Territories. 2v2 Weapon Inventory: 1 - Sniper Rifle, 150sec, 2clips 1 - Needler, 90sec, 1 clip 1 - Plasma Pistol, 60sec 1 - Plasma Rifle, 60sec 1 - Mauler, 120sec, 1 clip 2 - SMG, 30sec, 1clip 2 - Spiker, 30sec, 1clip 2 - Carbines, 90sec, 2clip 4 - Battle Rifle, 10sec, 2clips 6 - Frag Grenades, 30sec 6 - Plasma Grenades, 30sec 1 - Red OS, 120sec, yes start 1 - Camo, 120sec, yes start Download Harmony 2v2 Big thanks to Zanno, Tak, and Nasty, who helped test and offered some necessary design tweaks. Über thanks goes out to HITtheLIGHTZ for making such a great design in the first place. Hope you enjoy it and all intelligent feedback will be greatly appreciated. wow... ive never seen a recreation on halo 3 so good... the map is forged to perfection and just blows me away plz keep them coming... this is great u have my download. 5/5
Wow is all I can say. Squidhands you have constructed a thing of beauty here. It parallels with the concept in a lot of ways, but differs in important ways too. I like your bridges a lot. It would be even more exciting to see how close you could come on sandbox, but this looks fantastic in itself.
Dang it bro i tried to make a recreation of this map and you beat me to it lol. Overall this is about as good of a recreation of Shangri La as you are going to get on halo 3. The forging is beautiful while not straying too much from the original design. Your weapon layout is also quite impressive I will DL this for sure. I tried to make an unreal tournament gametype too but that failed pretty miserably haha. Alright well if i get a chance I will drop by here after I have played a game or two on it. -Ace
this map doesent really look like the map ur trying resemble, but its still really good and uses all forge skillz really well, who really cares if it looks like the map ur trying to resemble its great anyway!! 5/5 edit: i wouldent really know though cuz ive never played this map yet or the one in th eother game ill dl and try it out
Yeah I wasn't really trying to copy it from the start since Shangri-La is ****ing huge and all but it does draw some notable inspiration from it in parts. Squid also made a number of welcome additions to the sketchup to make it work better so by the end it really only resembled its predecessor in the bridge plat looking area. Anyway a lot of work went into this map (Squid with the forging, me with a buttload of 1v1 testing) and I can tell that it plays pretty nicely at this point.
An impressive map sir. Just from looking at the 3rd picture, it seems you have one of the annoying "flickering lines." (Between double boxes just above the stairs.) Personally, those really bug me. I didn't go through your pictures looking for something like that, but it kinda jumped out at me. Just to be sure, i'm gonna download and check it out. Maybe you don't mind those though. But it would be an easy fix. Other than that, looks fantastic
I have the older version of this, so I'll have to DL this one too. This is quite an impressive map on any scale, though. I my try to get back w/ more of a review when iplay this version, but 5/5
man this is a great remake.I love remakes especially ones this good.I love this map and it has a great technique of interlocking in it.it also has great gameplay which is most important in my eyse.
if im not mistaken, this was posted before, along time ago. if not, then i am having one **** of a case of deja-vu. anywho...great map, the interlocking is flawless, as expected of loyal's, and the the layout flows really well. i like how u guyz took the map and twisted it to halo's standards, very nice.
I don't know what you based it off (I've never played Unreal Tournament), but looking at it as a map, it looks amazing. The aesthetics are awesome, too. Great job! 5/5.
Finally, you posted this. I really loved the layout of this map because it gives proper gameplay even though I have not played on it yet. Just my theory. I really admire the Bridge Plat, haven't seen something like that before. I encourage you though to transfer the Sniper to the other side of that structure because people can very easily kill or damage someone who is getting it. Other than that, I like this map. Good job.
Thanks for all the kind comments, people. Hopefully there will be more after some quality games. You'll find no flickering or z-fighting of any kind here, sir. I've got to great lengths to ensure that nothing like that takes place. I'd also like to mention that the map is well under budget, so there shouldn't be anything to cause a lag issue. It has been posted for a while, but not here. I originally posted this in the MLG forums back before Christmas, and it's gone through some significant changes since then to improve the overall quality of the play area. If you look closely, there are two sniper rifles on the 1v1 version. The other is cross-map near the graveyard. One of the major problems with Guardian as a 1v1 map is the fact that there's only one sniper rifle, and that throws the whole game out of whack. You really need two in this scenario to really bring the game into a true competitve setting.
judging by the screenshots, it looks like you strayed fromr the original variation by quite a bit. However the map still looks beyond decent. I like your idea of jump pads, very creative.
Thanks, hope you end up enjoying it. The original version of the map is still up and received some pretty high praise from the MLG community. You can compare the two if you'd like to get a feel for what changed, but I feel that it was all for the better.
Slight update: I'm trying to get a gameroom video of some 1v1 gameplay for the main post here to show you guys some 1337 gameplay. Also about the z-fighting, I can assure you that there isn't any of that on the map. Squid and I have also briefly talked about making this in sandbox with some small changes (and a cooler look), stay tuend...
You already know I love this map. Squidhands, its been quite some time since you have made a map, or at least since Radius. This map has got to be one of the top 2v2, small competitive arenas on my hard drive. The balance of the map is incredible. With the secksy bridge and even secksyer high/low points this map always allows the best in strategy and player movement. I have played UT3 and it was very evident to me you drew inspiration from Shangra-Li. The jump pads too were quite clever. Nothing really seems out of place on this map, every little nook and cranny is masterfully blended into one seamless piece. I scratched my head though because the spawns were amazingly well done. For such a small space the spawns responded excellently the player placement and other contributing factors on the map. I think I forgot to give HtL praise but that is due indeed. Your mastery of MLG knowledge is prevalent with the lines of sight and weapon placement. The seckyness that is, Harmony.
Thank you for making this map i tried and failed before but this looks like it should work. Will you pla make more UT3 maps and also is you do plz message me so i can download
I mean its not really a remake, but it does share some similar geometry in the bridge plat area, and the window room/ bridge plat gameplay feels like running between jump boots and shield belt but that about where the similarities end at this point. As far as other UT maps go I really hope Deck is possible in the skybox, but if its not I definitely want to sketchup a deck inspired map.
Thanks so much for the great review, good sir! It was a fun game with you, Vice and Rusty. I've been pretty happy with the spawns for the most part, even in a 3v3 setting. As HtL said, there's a strong possibility that Harmony will see a re-imagining once I get my extremities on Sandbox. But that will be a ways off, after the next project. So until then, I hope everyone enjoys the map, and if you have any comments or want to throw up some gameplay footage, I'd greatly appreciate it!
