Agreed, it's an almost but not quite gametype. It needs more weapons on the map and some weapons at all in slayer. The vehicles are too weak and near useless, which ruins the fun. The initial loadouts are incredibly bad, especially spartan level 1 in Invasion. As well, the whole two games of territories+flag is a little boring..something to spice it up woulda been nice. All in all, massive potential and for the most part the map is pretty alright, but some flaws squander this potential. Edit: Nvm
So, quick question, do(es) our armor(s) and points carry over from the BETA into the actual Reach? Because if they do, I'm going to stop wasting points on armor because hopefully they'll have less bland armor in the full game, and if they don't carry over, I'm going to stop wasting my time earning them.
Vehicles are not useless at all. The low health makes them less overpowering, but the new splatter is great.
Invasion is a ****ing mess. I think it was something of an attempt to make an assault (not Halo assault) type gametype, but it doesn't really work in it's current state. Anyone remember Assault from Timesplitters? YouTube - Timesplitters 03 Mars Assault It was ridiculously fun and actually required you to complete actual objectives (blow up the prison wall, deactivate computers, kill somebody). I was hoping Invasion would be more like that.
I think they were testing the network side of things more than gameplay style of things for invasion. BTW, that looks pretty beut! Would make an awesome custom game for reach with all the new settings that are gonna be available.
"Hey guys, lets give the Spartans a Scorpion, a Warthog, two Lasers, three Rocket Launchers, two Snipers, and the ability to Spawn with a Grenade Launcher that not only explodes, but EMPs as well, and a Shotgun." "What do Elites get?" "A Wraith, a Ghost, a Banshee, the ability to spawn with Swords, and two Plasma Launchers and Focus Rifles that spawn after the first objective is taken but spawn literally right next to the Spartans first spawn point so that they have an easy chance to grab them on the way back to the main base leaving the Elites with almost nothing." "BRILLIANT!"
I got to play a little today on a friends XBOX and I must say that invasion was quite dissapointing. The one with the territories, it was terrible. I was a Spartan and we just kept spawning in that little room with the 3 doors. I mean over and over again while the Elites were just camping outside the room raping us. Plus one guy was up on the catwalk platform across the map just shooting us with that laser thing right through the doorway. We didnt have a chance. I mean, I know they are testing and working out the kinks, but come on! That was horrible. I got like a Killtrocity on my first Juggernaut game, which was fun, yet it seem pretty overpowereing in my opinion. Plus, though it is fun for a minute, why does everyone pick headhunter every friggin time!? IMO, its only fun for 2 games and then I am ready for something else, which I dont get since everyone picks it. Anyway, thats some of my thoughts. I have only played 20 games though, nothing like you guys in you 200's, lol.
Out of all the gametypes I like invasion slayer the best. Mostly because the ghost absolutely rapes. I got a running riot the other day in a ghost (plus a vehicular manslaughter so I wasn't just shooting). Invasion sucks when you are the elites. Too over powered. The vehicles die as quickly as Spartans do and the humans have tons of weaponry.
Generator Defense comes out on May 14th. I find Invasionn better than Invasion Slayer. If I play slayer, I get a vehicle and it is destroyed almost on the spot. Besides, Invasion is a lot funner defending and offending. I love it! I think it is a little overpowered with the grenade launcher. I do have fun with it, but it's just to much.
It's kind of hard to use them when people are spamming frag grenades at you when the vehicle spawns. Not to mention using the grenade launcher.
The main issue with Invasion (for me anyway) is that the spawning system is garbage. You wait the mandatory five seconds, chances are you wont be able to spawn on your BB, so you wait a few more seconds, switch over to a spawn room and you have to wait another 3-5 seconds to spawn in there, despite the countdown having already been completed. I find this reeeaaally slows down gameplay. Because if you opt out of spawning on your BB, you have to spawn annoying far away and high up so you usually lose shields dropping in. Plus, like I mentioned before, spawning at these spawn zones seems to add a few more seconds on to your spawn time, as well as the walking distance. I think the issue is that Bungie made it so that when you cycle through the spawn zones it doesn't instantly spawn you for resting on a zone. However, my solution would be to have say a "press x to respawn" after the spawn timer has counted down, thus removing the annoying wait for spawning in a spawn zone.
My opinions regarding vehicles go about as far as this: the nerfed Spartan jump makes ninjaing 'Hog gunners out a lot more difficult, which I dislike. But then the majority of the time when you're up against a hog you're playing as an Elite, so for Invasion at least I still enjoy myself. @tsb: I out BR Banshees on H3. In the immortal words of Cloud: "Challenge me!"
The vehicles are great, seriously, its just they don't last so long due to bad controls, abundance of counters, a cramped map, and driver ineptitude. I got a killtrocity and won the game with a scorpion. I find the warthog awfully slow though. It turns very slowly as well. Jetpacks counter both tanks very well, while any gun such as a DMR can handle a banshee, and rockets or a plasma launcher work well against the warthog and ghost.
I personal see the vehicles as power weapons and with power weapons you lose them quite quick. You should average four kills with a vehicle and you should be bum rushed and get hijacked or blown up. They did a great job with making the vehicles perfect, all my games in Invasion have been excitingly even.
I love how well everything is balanced. Nomatter what you have, going into a battle, you have an almost 50-50 chance. However, if you outrange and outpower your enemy, you still get free kills. Also, the melee system is very much broken. And one more thing: i always play on high sensitivity to accomodate my reflexes. I have it on 10 right now and it still feels sluggish. Wtf. I was a 7 on halo 3. Any higher and it was too fast.
