Forgers have anxiously awaited the arrival of the File Browsing system, which was a staple of Forge and community content dating back to its inception. 343 Industries has been hard at work since launch to craft a smart, concise and convenient system to sort through the multitude of creations out there in Halo 5, and today marks the release of the online File Browser!. Click here to view the official blog post.

You can start browsing and downloading Community content today, from game clips and screenshots to map and game variants. Visit HaloWaypoint.com, sign in and visit the File Browser in the Community Tab. From there you're able to view your files and browse more from the community!

343's latest rendition of the File Browser comes with the ability to view your own bookmarks and instantly bookmark recently played maps from your game history. You may also view and bookmark trending content from the community. Like always with the bookmark system, a file's unique download count is maintained, and you can now view how many times your content has been bookmarked.

The File Browser goes beyond even that with the ability to view Game Clips and Screenshots saved through Xbox DVR, and permanently bookmark you or your friends' recent films from Theater mode.

We're excited to explore and discover new community content and look forward to what new and improved features are on the way!

Do you have any thoughts or suggestions for the File Browser? Please leave your feedback below or in the File Share Feedback Thread.

    FORGEHUB NOTE:
Now is the time to update your map and gametype submissions with the appropriate download links. We may need to do some housekeeping on our end to keep things consistent, but it should not take long!

Holy ****! Hopefully that means it will be put in-game in the not too distant future but this is an amazing step especially for forgehub so we can have real download links. Nice job 343!

Its also a great incentive to try more maps, since we won't have to go through the process of adding people and searching through the list once it updates.

Maybe I just want to check how many downloads and if there are any associated files. Must I really show ID to window shop.

      Otherwise, Thank You.

Also, thank god you put the direct link back. I mean, ****, really.

Will Forgehub update to change tracking a maps popularity by "likes" to "bookmarks" shown on the file browser?

This is great and all but I'd like Files to remain private and only Bookmarks public. One, I want to prevent map thievery because it's an annoying issue I know myself and others have experienced. Two, it bothers me to see that some map projects that are being kept under wraps have been bookmarked by people. I have an unfinished map or two I don't want people to see yet, and I see they have been bookmarked, and that kind of bums me out.

Tracking the number of 'bookmarks' a map has is more difficult now than tracking no. of 'downloads' in the past. The map pages on waypoint are loaded through javascript and won't work with any automated task with PHP. I don't think there's anything available in the Waypoint API to track this data either...

I'll have to submit some feedback to 343 to either change things or open up something in the API to allow us to track this data.

The main issue I've run into is that you must be signed in to access the file browser. So as soon as I find a way to circumvent then I will share my findings. If anything I have a fairly ridiculous work around to fetch the data and store it in CAPI. So if I don't find a relatively easy solution for this then I'll definitely work the strange magic to still get the data into CAPI.

As you said, hopefully 343 just makes all this available through the API for us to just pull from.

I’d rather just be able to set a file as private or public. It would be easier than sifting through all of someone’s bookmarks to find their maps.

Congratulations, your game has one of the gameplay characteristics that it launched with 9 years ago. Way to go!!!!

To be honest, after all this time I half expected something big and amazing. Instead we get something that still feels like a step down from Bungies file share. I'm glad to finally see it out, however I hope that it gets the kind of love and attention that we have received in Forge. There are already some much-needed improvements to this feature.

It's been awhile since I mentioned it so, ***real thumbnails*** please.

I find it kind of odd that there is hover info for the download links (facebook/email/twitter...) on the file content page, yet the bookmark tab says nothing. As a first time user I made an assumption of what the Bookmark icon was, but honestly didn't know for sure without using it. Where does the content creators username take me? Again I have to click it to find out. It would also be helpful if the report button gave us a heads up about what exactly we are about to do.

I also find the link, "View Owner's Map Variants" to be a little odd. I personally would have either taken the extra step and coded it to say "View Preacher001's Map Variants" (The username is already being pulled to link to the profile anyway) or I would have simply labeled it "FIle Share" and then linked it to content creators other map variants. The wordy description could simply have existed in the hover text.

I know that some might say that everything is fairly obvious but it's just about clarification. Adding a few hover boxes and adjusting the "View Owner's Map Variants" would take little more than about 5 minutes for a competent web developer, so it's really not much to ask for.

I may sound ungrateful here, but am I the only one that thinks we should have a File Browser that is in-game along with category system so I can list my map as a remake, allowing players to search for maps in categories like "fun", "remake" and "original".

Such a long wait and all we get is Halo 3's file browser that's not even in-game. Plus it just throws all your maps on there in an order you have no control over. I gotta say this is really disappointing after such a long wait.

Given the content of the rest of your post, I'm morbidly curious about what word you felt the need to censor.

You also seem to feel very conflicted about this new File Share. One moment you don't care at all about it, and then the next moment you seem quite enraged by it.

Let's delve deep into your madness shall we

Hey 343! Look what you're doing to us.

Anyone else feel that when viewing search results, you are more likely to want to see a creators file share, than their user profile. Since the fileshare search is a search for files it's seems to me to be the more commonly clicked button. Of course you can click the file then click the View Owners ____ button, but if we're talking link optimization, I'm thinking it should be the other way around.

After bookmarking a number of links I can honestly say that we **require** a share/ hide file button. Any time anyone alters the original file it gets renamed as their creation. When looking for a bookmarked file you will see numerous results for a similar file. This is already happening on day one. Think of what this will be like after a couple months of this. I know I eventually custom tailor every map I download and apparently so does @WyvernZu. How about a Private/Friends/Public share option.

It's pretty dissapointed yes, Bungie knew better.
