343 Has announced the details of a new forge contest. This time around, the focus is on the newly release gametype Ricochet. Requirements - All maps submitted must be from either the Ravine, Impact, or Forge Island canvas. - Maps must be tagged as "CONTESTRICOCHET". - Small to Medium map size (playable for 4v4). - Maps must be submitted via the following forum thread: Halo 4 Ricochet Forge Contest - Map Submissions Thread Here's some advice from 343 on creating a fun Ricochet map: Spoiler A "fun space" to throw the ball in (not overly difficult to pass the ball to a teammate or throw the ball into the goal; the object is to find the sweet spot of a fun skill shot, without going too far by making it overly difficult to score) A space that ensures that it is not overly difficult to transition from offense to defense A "fun space" to score upon A "fun space" to defend against Although not necessarily a straight line, it is a best practice to have three good paths that a player can use to travel from goal-to-goal The defense needs to feel "empowered" to stop the offense at their goal Recommend having three good ball spawns to reduce spawn camping Prizes Spoiler GRAND PRIZE Autographed Champions Bundle poster (signed by CA) Autographed Halo 4 Concept art (signed by CA) Certain Affinity T-shirt Autographed Halo 4 Game of the Year Edition (signed by 343) Halo 4 T-shirt Rooster Teeth DVD Rooster Teeth T-Shirt Rooster Teeth poster 2ND PRIZE Autographed Halo 4 Concept art (signed by CA) Certain Affinity T-Shirt Autographed Halo 4 Game of the Year Edition (signed by 343) Halo 4 T-shirt Rooster Teeth poster 3RD PRIZE Certain Affinity T-Shirt Autographed Halo 4 Game of the Year Edition (signed by 343) Rooster Teeth poster You can read all the nitty gritty details here: Halo 4 Ricochet Forge Contest For general Ricochet discussion, check out this thread: Ricochet Thread
http://blogs.halowaypoint.com/Headlines/post/2013/09/16/Halo-4-Ricochet-Forge-Contest.aspx Time to start forging again, folks! Ricochet is a great game to forge for, and the winning maps may make it into Matchmaking!
I'm working right now on a Stadium-Themed map with Ricochet in mind. I think its something special and i would really like to submit it for the contest. But as i'm from Europe that seems not be possible ? Yeah thats really sad, i dont even care for the prizes, i just want that my map gets acknowledged.
I wonder why Erosion is not one of the eligible canvases? Could it be the debilitating frame rate issues? Pretty sure someone already asked over at Waypoint. Anyway, I wish I had a symmetrical map up my sleeve to submit to this. I don't think an asymm would fly for this contest although symmetry doesn't seem to be one of the requirements. EDIT - Merged Mr. Green's thread with Chunk's post in Announcements to streamline discussion.
The CCs don't select the winners in CA contests. We select the top 8 or 9 contenders and send them to CA. We find out who the winners are by reading the bulletin like everyone else. So, i'll ask you this. Each CC is friends with several top forgers. I would guess that most top forgers have at least one CC on their friends list (could be wrong). How can the winner NOT be among or collective group of friends? Should we disqualify MythicFritz, O for oVR, The Fated Fire, AtlasIsShruggin, and OTT2OWN from all contests just because they are on my friend's list? In that case a map with zero spawn points would have won the last contest.
You don't need to defend yourself against Schnitzel, Nokyard... Carry on. A lot of good forgers go unrecognized and unappreciated. It's the bane of the business.
Not at the moment you don't. Point i was trying to make was that it may seem like friends of CCs win contests, but it only looks that way because we hang out with other forgers. Seeing anything beyond that is merely an illusion caused an overactive, or spiteful, imagination. We have only picked the winner in a single contest, and in that case 3/4 of the votes were cast by CCs who had no affiliation with the forgers who entered maps. No one CC has the power to carry a preferred map to a contest win. It just can't happen with the procedures we have in place. Just like to clarify for the readers who don't know all the facts. If i were an outsider looking in i could draw the same conclusion.
All I have to say is the 4PL Contest at the end of Reach was garbage. Bad maps were selected that didn't even meet the splitscreen requirement, and they happened to be close friends with a couple of the CC's. It's not a fabrication, simply a reality of human interaction. There's a natural inclination toward in-group biases, and frankly that contest fell victim to such judging. I can't say anything of the last contest, I didn't partake in it. I'm not going to partake in this one either. The contest and my personal interactions with several CC's has left a very negative impression of the individuals that make up the CC's. Then again, I don't really care for many of the people in the Halo community in general, most certainly from the forge community in particular. I could elaborate further, but that would be an exercise of futility. We all know virtually every one has their own impression of me and anything I say will never register as anything more than 'butthurt' to most of you. Hell, people can actually go around spreading outright lies about me and you lot would believe every word. That being said, I'm done trying to filter what I say to you as no amount of restraint and courtesy will ever prevent you from interpreting my message as anything outside of your outlandish preconceived notions. Nerds.
Incorrect again. The problem with that competition was in the voting process itself. In each round of filtering we were individually given the opportunity to select 3 maps and place them in order on secret ballots. Our first choice was awarded 3 points, second was awarded 2 points, and our third choice was awarded 1 point. As you are aware the best maps tend to polarize opinions. Either you LOVE a map or you hate it. So when it came down to the final selection all that were left to vote on were everybody's third choices because they garnered the most overall points. None of the winning entries had ever received a solid 3 points from ANY CC in any round of voting. That kind of kills your favourtism conspiracy theory. Your saying we all selected our friend's maps to place 3rd and hoped all the other CCs did the same.
Lets please keep this on topic: Halo 4 Ricochet Forge Contest Erosion truly is a worthless canvas. Such a waste of resources. I mean even the Grifball area was poorly designed what with the lighting and uneven walls and all. Anyway, I played Ricochet for the first time last night and while it was fun, I dont understand why Ghostayame is being pressured by 343 to include it in TTD. The gametype will never match CTF, Assault or Stockpile even, not unless we get some really good maps and settings designed around the concept. I hope to launch a contest in a week or 2 to challenge forgers to create a unique mini-game experience using Ricochet. I believe that this can rival Grifball as a "sports" gamemode. Hell, adopt Ricochet for Grifball exclusively even b/c they are so similar. Its too much redundancy otherwise.
That be the case, nepotisim actually did take a back seat to quality but unfortunately due to the polarization in the votes, the bottom tier that made it on merit of biases actually did win. And considering the only part of the contest I had no part in was of the CC judging (as I was one of the guys working extremely close to Homeboyd at the time and did have an ear in through various CCs as to what was going on), it's kind of outrageous of you to try and paint me as a nobody crafting up conspiracy theories.
I got this pretty darn original idea for a ricochet map, just gotta design the map. Shouldn't be too hard.. And f that I'm not from the US, I'm still gonna win.
