I was very disappointed to see the same grey blocks from Forgeworld. I know they didn't show much, but from what I saw it was rather disappointing. I did like the new trait system though, and the dynamic lighting is pretty cool.
The only disappointment to me was the forgeworld blocks. Though I suspect that the other 2 palettes will have different textures at least. The lighting, player effect zones, and canvas all made me quite happy.
Really want to see more of this palette and even more so the other two. It seems weird that they're recycling some of the objects - I hope we've only glimpsed the tip of the iceberg on that front.
I think the reason they only really showed the one pallet is because the other ones are completely new. They did say they were only gonna release some info at current the rest will be announced later. So it makes sense to show us the pallet with a majority of objects we already know. And Sarge, given that the forge community has been asking for more movable objects than any of the other stuff aside from maybe the lock object function, I think it likely that there will be many movable objects, if not just items like operational doors in game play anyway.
I would actually go further with that and say there are only so many different shapes of blocks. We never actually saw what they looked like, just that they were there in the same sizes. Just like all the items we did see, they look the same for design, but the texture may be something new.
Reach Forge with dynamic lighting. How disappointing. The biggest complain is about how grey and similar all the Reach Fore maps look and they show nothing that ables us to change that. Instead they show us more grey objects, awesome 343.
Yeah, I don't get the complaint. In fact it's one of the laziest complaints. Everything in halo 3 either looked sloppy because of the unmatched textures of foundry or like tan puke. In Reach there is a plethora of areas to build in so you don't get the "grey box" effect, it just takes creativity. The biggest complaint is the framerate lag which limited the amount of objects you could use and still have a well functioning map. If that is fixed they could make every single thing grey for all I care.
Also I thought that we were going to get more object palettes which should go a long way toward fixing the repetitive nature of forge map palettes as a whole, something that goes back to Foundry.
Has anyone heard anything at all about infection? Is the sword going to need a replacement? Maybe we will actually be able to use fists like in the gameplay demo.
All I hear when people play matchmaking is "Why do I have to play all these gray maps that look-a-like?"
You could always use fists. I have an infection gametype that relies on that lol. Of course you need to have a different weapon equipped, but you just set weapon damage to 0.
Besides the additional palettes we haven't seen, I also hold out hope that lights will be actually able to be utilized without crushing framerate, and that the available effects will be more diverse and more subtle. Both of those things would go a long way toward making plain gray maps look a little more exciting. I feel like there's way more that they haven't shown us than that they have, so I'm withholding judgment for now. But I do think they would have been smart to lead with something that would blow us off our feet. This particular demo seems like it was aimed at people that barely forge.
