Fair enough, makes sense. I'd completely forgotten about that problem with starting Carbines in H3 gametypes too.
Ahah! So I did recall correctly. So any thoughts about what 343 will do regarding the starting weapons, weapons on map, etc... I imagine they will have the BR and either the carbine or DMR considering they're both single shot and the DMR would get destroyed by a Carbine in SWAT.
Funny, about 15 pages back and no direct video feed as far as I can tell, so no need to be a **** about it. I know everyone knew about the sniper, but this is the first I've seen that has a good chunk of footage with it. Also, this video was literally put online the day I posted it, along with the following videos people posted that were from the same source. Also, I'm hoping that they alter the ordinance drop system to maybe take away 1 point toward a drop for each death. If you had 4 and were about to get that 5th for your OD before getting killed, now you'll only 3 points toward it when you respawn and so on. Anything to make it a little more difficult and balanced.
I'm assuming that the ordnance drops were set deliberately low for E3 builds to fullymshowcase them and the bonuses they offer? If we had to wait like 5 minutes on each video to see one drop, we wouldn't learn much. My hope is that they bump it up to about 10,15 kills. That'd make them common, but it'd take focus off of them.
someone posted the video like an hour before you did, the page before your post. i found it frustrating that you couldnt click your mouse one extra time to see it was already posted. and that would be nice, it would be even better if you only got them for only a killing spree, no deaths between. but 343 seems really adamant about getting power weapons as often as possible in infinity slayer for some reason. they seem to think its so awesome that you get more "toys to play with", i believe they used those words in one video.
:O 343i just posted this on the halo 4 page of waypoint. Impressive, but it drags on a bit for me. It is a piece that doesn't go very far. Still like it though.
It sounds halo, and thats all that matters. I like it ___________________ Anyways.. the Sniper Rifle.. Halo 4 Sniper Gameplay - from Gamespot's Hardlight Shield and Developer Commentary Video - YouTube It looks kinda funky. And it sounds very surpressed..
I thought it was clear that ordnance drops don't contain power weapons, just mid-level weapons (needlers, etc.), power-ups, and perks. Traditional power weapons are on the map like they always have been.
As far as I understand, personal ordnance is contextual to the map, but even set power weapons are still dropped as ordnance, just not personal ordnance. It effectively works like old school power weapons did, in the sense of (I think) set position and timing, but it's still technically an ordnance drop. Also, I strongly remember one of the devs saying that personal ordnance can include things like Snipers on bigger maps (I think it was when he was talking during the commentated MLG game on the corridor based map). I don't think they necessarily differentiate between proper and mid level power weapons in such a strong sense as you're making out, though they obviously think carefully about allowing things like Snipers as personal ordnance, and I've heard no mention of personal Rocket Launcher drops (thank god). EDIT: Also, the repeat rate on that Sniper looks alright. When he was firing along the curved hall he fired two shots in relatively quick succession. Hopefully there's potential for a little quicker than that, but after Walshy's talk I was a little worried we'd been downgraded to bolt action repeat rates or something. I'm also quite liking the new sound as well, though it's definitely odd. I don't really mind having my game sounds switched up, it's a change I can enjoy without it affecting my game. I remember really loving the sound of the DMR when Reach came out because of how different and new (and badass in comparison to the BR) it sounded, whereas loads of people seemed to hate it.
Fair enough. And I assume that whatever they've experimented with so far, the personal ordnance isn't set in stone. Basically, I'm not terribly worried about this until/unless they release a game where I can actually get a sniper or rockets every five kills. Until then let's not get all concerned; I would assume and hope that they're smart enough not to do that.
Mention of having Sniper as personal ordnance at all did kinda worry me for that exact reason. He seemed adamant that it would only be on larger maps, but I'm still a little concerned about that myself. But overall I agree, I think they'll be pretty smart about how they balance personal ordnance and have no reason to suspect Rocket Launcher flooded games at all at this stage.
Im not really against the way the sniper is, I just havent gotten used to the concept. Hopefully 343 can do something where it doesnt block out 1/2 the screen because of how bulky it is.
Yeah, I'd kinda like it if the scope didn't block as much vertical space as it does, but not by much. Overall I think you've gotta have some screen blocking as a downside to using it without scope. Things like this are a nice way to encourage designated use (ie. scoped in) without actually limiting the mechanics of the gun when used without scope. I also kinda like the new look of the scope. It'll take some getting used to, but at this stage I'd kinda like something significantly different to get used to in appearance terms. The Sniper hasn't really changed that much since CE, I'm OK with having something different to look at, and I'm gonna be looking at it a lot...
I really do hope all the sounds are finished the grenades, they sound like **** but you get used to it. The sniper sounds weak as ****
One thing I really liked about the Trilogy/Reach was that you could identify a weapon based on sounds alone from any game because they kept the same distinct sound for each weapon and stuck with it while simply updating the quality to fit the times. Exceptions being limited to mostly the Banshee and Plasma Rifle. I can't think of any others that changed dramatically. Maybe the Sniper, but it always sounded the most powerful and could be identified by the loud 'crack'. To me, most of these sounds in Halo 4 are pretty generic firearm sounds, at least for the UNSC weapons. They are still somewhat distinct but not like their original trilogy cousins. (For example the BR, Warthog, Sniper and Magnum) I miss that. It's a small concern in the grand scheme of things, but it's still something I'm going to miss, albeit not as much as same starts or no AA gameplay being prominent. On a somewhat unrelated note, it seems Waypoint got their hands on a small control scheme script Der Flatulator made. I've been playing around with it a bit and was wondering what everyone else would use given the option to make their own controls. (Here: http://derflatulator.com/stuff/controller-layout-designer/) This would be mine: Spoiler RT: Fire RB: Melee RS: Scope LT: Throw Grenade LB: Jump LS: Crouch A: Use AA B: Reload/Action X: Sprint Y: Switch Weapon DP: Switch Grenade BACK: Score board START: Settings/Loadouts Modified Bumper Jumper.
The assault rifle sounds went from a gun that shoots concentrated manliness to a BB gun. I'd say that the guns still sound pretty distinct, but that's just me. I also think that if the guns are going to have completely different models, it would be weird if they had the exact same sounds.
