It had spread in Halo 3, good sir. Random Halo 3 BR Spread | Zoom VS no Zoom - YouTube Anyway, I think I misunderstood the point of the image he posted. I was focusing on the shields being lit, not the reticule being red. I amended my post accordingly.
They posted this on NeoGAF or..? How do you know that? I haven't heard any definitive information about whether or not the BR will have spread. I know it's supposed to be hitscan but that certainly doesn't mean that the shots won't spread regardless.
He said no spread. Just recoil. Halo 3 had spread (and I think bullet tracking) Halo 4 is hitscan and recoil. In other words, as easy as possible. And btw nutduster. GO through that clip again. It happens 5 or 6 times. Out of like, 6 or 7.
For the whole "BR sound sucks!" discussion: listen to the difference between the Conan clip and the first look (at 3:12) trailer: Making Halo 4: First Look - YouTube Halo 4 Gameplay @ The Conan Show - YouTube It was definitely softened to hear Conan's "beautiful" scream. Also, I personally don't believe that the bullets will have spread if they are hitscan: it wouldn't seem right to have bullets with practically no travel time (hitscan) have a system based around travel time implemented (spread).
Or as competitive as possible, since removing spread reduces randomness... Anyway I find this curious, aren't the DMR and BR essentially redundant if the BR no longer has spread? Or is the idea that the BR recoil will be significant over long range and make the DMR the better weapon for those distances, while the actual burst of the BR is slightly more damaging than a DMR shot, thus making it more effective in close or at short-mid range? I'm genuinely curious. I foresee a lot of functionally similar weapons in Halo 4. Edited by merge: He's constantly flashing his reticule across the other player's body though. I'm not convinced that what we're seeing is exactly what we think we're seeing. Edited by merge: Emphasis added. I wouldn't be in a hurry to inscribe that on stone tablets. It's "as of this moment..." information delivered informally for a game that is five months away, from a guy who doesn't even sound particularly confident in the information he's giving.
Spread is nothing to do with travel time vs. hitscan. Spread is the bullets diverging from one another gradually as distance increases, a mechanic meant to limit range (though inconsistently, which is my main beef with it). Are you talking about the difference in time between each bullet firing in a burst? Ie. they are spread out in terms of going along their path, thus hitting in sequence, rather than anything to do with accuracy? If so then that's not spread, but just a part of burst fire.
I remember them saying that in terms of range is goes: Sniper -> DMR (slower RoF than BR) -> BR -> Assault Pistol -> Assault Rifle Something like that. And the AR is a "finisher." Not a "shield depleter." tbh I think that is along the right lines. BR should have a faster kill time that the AR, otherwise it is too easy.
They did mention weapon customisation (of some sort) so maybe the BR has a suppressor on it. If it did, that would be retarded.
The suppressor idea might be interesting IF they had a radar mode that only shows shots fired/explosions (i.e. not a motion tracker) and if the suppressor caused your shots to not appear on said radar (as well as being quieter). Hypothetically.
I really don't like most of the "new features" they've discussed, and I don't like the way the armor looks at all, but I have to admit that the gameplay shots they've shown thus far really do feel Halo to me. The movement and the weapons are really feeling good so far visually. Plus the maps still have that unique vibe to them, which I felt Reach lacked a lot of. Also, I'd almost put money on the fact that they had a silencer on the BR. I think it was just another subtle way of unveiling new features, be them useful or just for fun.
Ah, I thought we were talking about the whole "lead your shots" kind of spread concepts in Halo 3 that were nonexistent in the Halo 2 hitscan BR.
Ah...thats embarrassing... So what's your opinion on spread, then? When ZB Slayer came out for Reach, I thought the DMR would be detrimental to any BTB games because the DMR was perfectly effective across any range.
