Wow forging is nothing like it used to be, I bet the map db is getting flooded with maps now, considering how quickly they can be made... I mean, interlocking was simple before, same with lining things up once you figured the exact place you wanted it (minus the times objects would move the tiniest little bit in between rounds...), but even geo-merging has been made ridiculously easy, like so easy I started laughing way too hard at 3am... Yes, I'm a bit behind in regards to forging on the nice n shiny forgeworld... And this is what brings me here. I may be overly ambitious about the new mapmaking abilities, seeing I bought the game two nights ago and I'm almost halfway done with my first... What tips do my old friends and even other new fish have for me? I remember how overly critical in map judgement I used to be on here, are things pretty much the same as they once were?
Framerate is a BIG issue. Avoid using pieces with lights. Pieces I can think of off the top of my head include Railings, bridges, and well...lights. Also, try to avoid lots of object density and MASSIVE lines of site. All of these things contribute to the demon that is framerate lag. I'm sure others can provide you with a more well thought out explanation of that, but that's my 2 cents Another thing forgers sometimes have trouble doing is adding color to the very grey color scheme. I'm pretty sure you've got a grasp of map design, so I won't go there. It's good to have you back. you were one of the best. Best regards,
Watch for performance issues. Some objects cause the game to drop frames, commonly known as frame rate lag. Easy ways to avoid is not having: lights, transparent objects, objects with lots of glass, objects with lights on them, long lines of sight, too many objects in one area. Also, it takes a while to figure out which objects to use. IMO, brace large is your friend. Look at other maps to see how people did it.
Keep in mind you also should make points of interest larger than normal, to accommodate for the Armour Abilities.
