Right, because I was totally talking about non-emergency situations. And police officers NEVER get ticketed.
I think his point was that since people do not engage in high speed chases or need to get to crime scenes/accidents like police do, their special privileges are for their job. Since going through a light just to avoid traffic is not a normal thing cops do (some do) cops shouldn't have their privilege to go through lights taken away just because regular people can't do so. The point being police need the guns to do their job (albeit rarely in the case of assault weapons) while regular people never need those guns, for any situation.
I would contest that the police need to ramp up their arms in response. The kind of equipment being deployed now just to stop protesters is pretty insane.
