Graffiti snails roaming London Sunday, June 1, 2008 Shell shock: One snail has shell graffiti Most people have to shell out to give their homes a makeover – not so for these multi-coloured molluscs. The flashy snails have had their drab shells given a paint job for nothing – and they didn't even have to move a muscle. A London artist, known only as Slinkachu, has used the molluscs' shells for a series of designs dubbed 'Inner City Snail – a slow-moving street art project'. One was given a graffiti-style urban revamp complete with a new name – John – spelt out across its shell. Another had the Tube logo painted on as well as acquiring a couple of unexpected passengers. Shell shock: One snail acquired some surprise passengers Slinkachu was keen to point out that non-toxic paints were used. The 28-year-old said: 'No snails were harmed – they just had their homes vandalised.' And, with their long lifespan, don't be too surprised to see a brightly-coloured snail making its way down a street near you. In a previous project, Little People, Slinkachu photographed tiny plastic figures apparently going about their lives in the capital, from Tube travel to sightseeing. Slime off: One snail makes its escape, leaving behind a treacherous pool of gunge to foil the mini urban cowboy and his spraycan He left many of the figures dotted around the capital for their larger, human equivalents to discover. Um, yeah WTF? Painting snails? I'm sure any sane person can find something better to do with their talents than painting snails.
lol woah. That's amazing. Why Mark yourself when you can mark something like a snail whose shell will last a lifetime if not crushed. I'ma try that.
Linu, this is perfectly sane, and might I add, cool. It's not everyday you see something different. Whoever is painting the snails has a lot of creativity.
I reckon they're wasting their creativity. What happened to a Canvas? Or something a little more noticable than a snail.
This got the news, if he painted on a canvas it would not be on the news. People now know his name. He did something different, that makes him unique. Not just another canvas painter =]
I once saw this kind of stuff.......in snails going across my backyard streets etc I used to see them but....not anymore oh well. I can only imagine who painted the ones I saw being in Seattle and nowhere near there.....
