Alot of these threads people post in this section are kind of ridiculous. Its supposed to be for serious chats and discussion, but people just post about their day or random facts in here. and i think that belongs in off topic. I kinda think of it as a small debate section lol. in a way...but we have people in here talking about their evil dads and what type of poster you are. not that im dogging your threads, but doesn't it just make sense to be in off-topic? but then again, people can have actual discussions about those kinds of things....so i don't know. I'm sorry, but I don't really understand your post. If these types of threads aren't what General Chat should have, then what threads is it supposed to have? Now, I haven't looked into the "What Kind Of Poster Are You?" thread, but the "Evil Step Dad" topic isn't ridiculous. I suggest you read it. It's not about some fictional story he made up, he's asking for advice and guidance. My "Should I Buy an iPod Touch?" topic? To me, that's chat in general. I'm asking the ForgeHub community if I should buy an iPod Touch. I didn't say "omgomgomgogm ipod rulez zune sux lolol". The many stories about news? Admittedly some of them maybe be a bit more unusual than what you see on the 6'o'clock news, but they promote discussion all the same.
I didn't call his thread ridiculous, i just used those threads as an example cause im too lazy to go look for other ones...and they were up front anyways lol. i also never said anything about your thread...but yeah i guess it counts too. and see how i said "but then again, people can have actual discussions about those kinds of things....so i don't know. Just something to think about." obviously i know those can start real discussions, or i wouldn't have contradict myself like i did. just my thoughts running wild in my head. don't take so much offense.
I didn't take offense, :lol: , I just didn't get the point. In my view, I see no topics in General Chat that aren't, well, General Chat.
well duh haha. cause any kind of chat is general chat. chat is chat. i just see alot of off topic posts is all.
I don't think the community is really capable of "general chat". Majority treat the forum like an instant messenger. Lack of interesting discussion makes the forum very boring for me, the staff forum is pretty much the only place anything interesting happens. The nearest general chat gets is the copy and pasted news articles, to which the replies are usually a bunch of single sentences like "omg thats terrible I'd hate that to happen to me".
Well thank goodness I haven't posted any threads here! Not only am I not one to blame, but I haven't added the pointless garbage threads that I know I'd add! Yeah, there's some nasty trash floating by in this segment of cyberspace.
I kinda disagree. Most of the threads that are here are fine. Like this thread, your just talking about something on your mind. The off topic thread in my opinion is more for silly threads and posts, which aren't to be taken too seriously. If the "my stepdad is evil" post was in the off topic it might be taken much less seriously.
Really, this section so be comprised of topics posted by Reyn in which people reply and discuss. Off-topic to me is: 100000000000bajillion post party, om nom..and those types of threads. Things like how do you feel about back to school, or my parents give me ****, or music/band discussion, media discussions, world events..blah blah..thats all general chat.
The General Chat is really supported with Reynbow with news. I agree, however, that some topics should be moved to the off topic section and this in itself is a small-mini debate. However, at the same time Toochie is right that it can be itself a chat. Although, if we had this section removed this would all be inside the Small off topic section: Scratch that, I don't see a conclusion with a reasoning. Infact, this should be moved to the Customer Service section. This is a question, and a complaint. This is not a general chat like the ones you are suppose to see. So can a moderator please move this topic? Anyways, with the General Chat I can't suggest anything. The moderators can't move all the topics, because that would be to much work. ((Because they are to busy with the spam in the Map Making section.)) However, we need to find a conclusion with this topic quickly. Or, in other words... We could just go with what I stated in paragraph 1.

Yeah I think that there are a few great discussion topics here in General Chat, but a lot of it is stuff that should go in Off Topic, but people put it in here to boost post count. Just a few days ago there was one of those "_______ the above user" things that really should only be on off topic. The news and stuff like that are okay. Stuff about you personal life is okay as long as it applies to a discussion, and isn't just you throwing stuff about your life out there. I agree that it should be cleaned up quite a bit. There's quite a bit of unnecessary spam.
Well, it's good to know you already heard of my "What type of poster are you" thread. Lol. The difference between General Chat, and Off Topics is the posts/threads. If you want a serious thread that does not belong in any section, you choose Off Topics or General Chat (Clearly depending on the thread of course) If you want people to not take your thread seriously post it on the Off Topics, if you want it to be taken seriously General Chat is your choice.
