GARDENS OF BABYLON The Gardens of Babylon will be my entry to this month's contest, Wonders of The World II. Basically the map was constructed over two very long forging sessions, which honestly isn't as long as most of the time it takes me to build maps. The map contains flowers, vines, a waterfall, clean geometry and much more for you to find out. Please view this map in forge, as it utilizes spawn points and such. Also, please play as blue team. Please note that this is the only aesthetic map I have ever made, so it might not be too good, but I want to say I atleast submitted something to the contest. So now pics: So this was the image I based much of the map from, as there aren't any really pictures of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, just artist's ideas. Alright guys that's it. Thanks for checking out my feeble attempt at an aesthetic map, and best of luck to all of the other entrants!
I like the way the flower looks I saw someone try to do this and it sucked is itbpossible to get any more pics??? Is it*
Okay, this was a tough one. After spending a solid half hour on the map, I can admit that this is one the the better entrees I've looked through. You've created for us viewers a dignified make of the Gardens, even without any solid pictures at your disposal. In certain areas, the map took off in my mind. You weren't totally dependant on the "Garden" theme and made sure to choose well rounded tetures and structures that well contrasted each other. For example, I like the minimal use of futuristic Forerunner glass in creating an ancient wonder. The bank flooring is well placed with its unique element of high contrast to the other areas. The bridge medium lowhang of the ceiling in the interior segmented by creeping rocks was well made and well thought. Speaking of natural terrain, I hardly think the lack thereof is an issue. I went in expecting to see a pathetic attempt to create your own natural terrain, but you pleasantly surprised me with your fitting and natural use of those pieces. Rocks and grass were always placed with thought and caution, and I commend you for that. But an eye for pleasing palletes and structure isn't all you'll need to win the contest. I'm no judge, but I'm sure you'll need to employ a reasonable number of "gimmicks" as well. You got the idea to use spawn points, a nice idea, but one that isn't original anymore unless you make it so. Your flowers were something that hasn't been done yet. Despite their size, they were true to life and miles ahead of any of the skimpy colorful dots people pass off as flowers nowadays. But the ivy, while almost necessary if you want to capture the Gardens in their true essence, was notably crude, but with the addition of a few more spawn points (and perhaps the inclusion of some initials), it may be subject to notable improvement. It also seems as though you ran out of ideas at some point and went generic. I never understood exactly what a sprint was supposed to represent in an aesthetic map, and this placement is no exception. The large multicolored pot of flowers on the base floor (at the base of the staircase) was getting back into that skimpy colorful dot way of looking at flowers. Flowers have petals, and stems and leaves, and you've also already proved to me that you know how to include nicer looking plants with your larger versions. Good luck!
I really appreciate the awesome comment Flamingo. I basically agree with everything you said. When I saw the huge comment I was like Oh **** he is gonna really hate on my map. But I was pleasanty surprised lol. In regards to the sprint, I was trying to make some sort of sacred crystal or something, a bit of a stretch I know. I really wish I could have done more with the ivy, but I knew if I added anymore to the front it would lag more than it already does. Again, thanks. Thanks everyone else as well.
