jeah, but FC is not halo. in the way forge works, we haven't got it yet^^ oh, and making caves out of rocks is so much better than manage to do it without wasting objects... it would be better not crying about it but it would obviously be better^^
Far Cry multiplayer died because of impatience. In Halo custom games, it's smooth and easy because all pieces are pre loaded on the map for everyone, and you're not making a new map, you're editing one that already exists. That's why we don't have to download a map to play it in customs. In Far Cry, EVERYONE had to download the map, and depending on the actual size of said map, it could be anything from 10 seconds to 4 minutes to download, and everyone got sick of all the waiting. There lies the flaw. The map making system could have been implemented in a better way so that the downloads took less time, or perhaps that the map sizes were smaller.
If 343 is really ambitious, they will find ways to implement Far Cry-style features into Halo 4 forge. I really appreciate the features in Reach and feel that it's head and shoulders better than Halo 3's forge was - but that said, Bungie could have thought outside the box a little more than they did. Basically it seems like they limited themselves to giving us a much easier-to-use and shinier version of Halo 3 forge, instead of looking for brand new possibilities. You're still basically working with lots of structure objects, a few scenery objects, and a sprinkling of lights and effects - they didn't tap at all into geometry editing (even the fake kind, like having a "grassy hill" object or a "cave tunnel" object, and no, the rock arch doesn't count!), texture changing, weather or true lighting changes, plant life/objects, etc. I'm really crossing my fingers that Halo 4 forge is on some next level **** and taps into some of these ideas so that when you load up someone's custom map, you literally have almost no idea what you're going to see. I think there are ways they can pull off a lot of this stuff (or all of it) without significantly changing the size of a custom map load, or destroying the performance of the engine.
I just hope if said features are actually implemented, it doesn't cause the same problems that the Far Cry 2 map size did. That plus, having millions of maps that are tiny in size wouldn't be much of a strain on the servers for Halo 4, but having millions of maps that are 5mb+ in size would cause some serious server problems. Especially when it comes to hosting stuff in your fileshare.
Can this thread go away now. I think its served its purpose and proven to be another, "I'm bored of this game, time to complain" thread. There are plenty of threads for discussing halo 4 and what we want in it and plenty of threads listing problems of forgeworld.
