Hey guys. I was recently reading a topic in this forum on how people sketch out their ideas first (ex. paper, MSpaint, etc.). I am decently skilled in Flash, so I have this idea to create a flash program in which you can design your map on the PC before you start creating it. I'm thinking of making a Foundry designer first, and seeing how you guys like that (if you think this is a good idea, anyways). Perhaps if it's very successful, ForgeHub could create a page on their site with a collection of these designers. I'll get started on the Foundry one now, in the meantime, tell me what you guys think of the idea. Thanks!
Sounds cool if you can do it. I need to work out how much of Foundry can be covered with 14 bridges and 9 double walls.
As long as we can have things at angles, say vertical, 45 degrees and horizontal, that would be great.
i dont know nothin about how to work that kinda stuff, but its sounds like it'd be great to do. Good luck
If you think you can program it, go for it. I actually have a little experience with Flash, but not that much.
There is no limit to the amount of credit you would recieve off this. I think a good idea could be not to make a map, but make the items. You could construct the shapes in the air. It wouldnt be as good as a virtual foundry, but it would be alot easier to create (I guess). I hope you give this a go, and if you do then create a topic and keep the community updated, you would get a great deal of support.
mooregames, project, and some other people, (including me at a time) were working on a google sketchup version of foundry just like yours, except way more advanced and detailed. i wonder how the project is coming? Edit: Here is the site, Foundry 3D
It's not 3D, it will be an overhead view. It'll have the overheard view of the map on one panel, and an 'objects panel' on the other side of the program. You click on an object to activate it, place it where you want, and it will adjust your budget accordingly.
With the 3D program, you have to download Sketchup for it to work. With this guy's plan, it'll be embedded in a page.
Very cool idea, hopefully you will be able to incorporate floors into it, merging objects into geometry, merging objects with other objects, and angling them.
I'm afraid I can't do floors or anything, but I you will be able to drag the objects over each other and angle them. I have the basic engine done, here's what it looks like so far (note that "BUDGET" text with a dashed border will be replaced with your current budget.) The panel to the right of the map will be the area where you can select/deselect/move/rotate the objects.
I've actually been experimenting with pretty much the exact same thing in flash. Here's what I've made so far: Foundry Designer
Thanks It's still a work in progress, only the basics of placing objects are functional so far. There's still plenty of stuff I need to add to it.
