I think you should have duplicated the original render and placed it on top of the smudging. That being said, it's excellent for a first.
Yeah I almost always do, I just had to google how to I'm trying to render the SOTW spawn thing, but the pen tool has it's fill on so it just fills the area with white, not make a path around it so I can render it.

I'm following this one SigTutorials.com - The best Signature Tutorials! and one he says to use the settings for the brushes, I don't see all the settings he has up on it, only a few. How do I get the others or is he using a different type of PS?
