NOTE: I wrote up this thread for another site, and since this a community that loves Far Cry, i posted it here.

Now, i know every one is all exited for the upcoming epic, Far Cry 2. With its revolutionary map editor, astonishing graphics and physics, and not to mention the massive savanna campaign. Its seems like an instant hit. But i bet this is just like the summer Block Buster, The Dark Knight, every one was so excited, it was gonna be the best movie ever, and it turned out to be what most off the people thought it would be, a truly jaw dropping Epic, some people didn't even know it was a sequel, and weren't even Bat Man Fans, they were just caught up in the heat of this amazing movie.

I think the same goes for Far Cry 2. It looks like such an amazing game, a true technological feet, but some haven't even played the others, they are just caught up in this amazing game, but they don't Know the roots. It's time they Find out.

    History : Far Cry

Far Cry, originally a PC exclusive, Developed by Crytec, and Published by Ubisoft, follows the story of Ex - Special Forces operator by the name of Jack Carver, who finds himself stranded on a mysterious archipelago in Micronesia. He is on a search for a women Journalist whom he was escorting before she had gone missing.

Thats was the basic plot of Far Crys' Story Line. Far Cry, like almost every other PC first person shooter, held the feature of multiplayer mode, or Online mode. Although compared to todays standards, this game lacked game modes, and would be considered as "Just a plain FPS', but back in 2004, this was an amazing game.

    Multiplayer had 3 modes:

    • FFA or "Free For All" - score points by killing other opponents
    • TDM or "Team Death Match" - score points by killing opponents in the other team
    • Assault - a type of game where the attacking team must capture 3 enemy bases, one after another. The defending team must repel the enemy until the timer runs out. Victory is awarded to the team who fulfilled their mission.

    Level Creator : Far Cry

Far Cry, like all the others to come, features a built-in real-time Sandbox Editor. not only did this make creating level for CryTek easier, but it allowed you, The Gamer, create levels, and not have to deal with the hassle of modding, cutting out the need to load the game to test a custom level. You could then upload them to a server, to let the whole world see your maps.

    History : Far Cry Instincts

Then, in 2005, console gamers [xbox] got there hand on the hit PC title Far Cry, but this time, with a twist. Like the last Far Cry, you follow the story of Jack Carver, who is now a former Navy Seal, but this time, he's got something up his sleeve. He is no longer just a normal man, he is super hero like. He can jump Higher, run faster, and live longer, all thanks to his Feral powers. These powers were given to him by a man named Dr. Krieger. He thought Carver would be a perfect test subject.

Krieger was attempting to develop a serum that would enhance the physical abilities of man, and "unlock" hidden animal traits. It worked. Like the Far Cry 2, it had a pretty basic plot. Sadly, it has not as revolutionary as the original Far Cry. Instincts is less open-ended and more a lot linear, due to the console's reduce in processing power, which prevents the full rendering of the hit PC version's vast and detailed Islands and landscape. However, Instincts came with more Multiplayer Modes, more weapons, and the brand new Feral abilities. this gave instincts a better lasting ability.

    Details: Far Cry Instincts

The major add on to this Far Cry, was the feral abilities. This made the gameplay feel almost like Halo, the hit multiplayer game developed by Bungie. This alo made the gameplay more diverse, rather than your run and gun fps.

List of feral abilities [copied] :

    • "Feral smell" - The natural scent given off by living things is visible to Jack as an orange haze which can be used to track movement
    • "Feral vision" - Allows for night vision and thermal vision.
    • "Feral speed" - Allows Carver to run much faster than normal
    • "Feral jump" - While utilizing feral speed, allows Carver to jump great distances
    • "Feral attack" - A melee attack, initiated by pressing the 'B' button when an enemy is targeted, powerful enough to send most enemies flying and refuel adrenaline.
    • "Feral strength" - Allows Jack to rip a mounted weapon off its post and use it in place of his current special weapon (currently held special weapon is holstered until mounted weapon is dropped or its ammunition runs out)
    • "Regeneration" - Jack's health slowly recovers when he's not under attack; how fast he recovers depends on how much adrenaline remains.

History : Far Cry Instincts Predator

Like its name, Predator, a Xbox 360 title, was not that much different from the Xbox title known as Far Cry Instincts. It was basically the same game. A title by the name of Evolution, a sequel to Far Cry Instincts, is included with in the whole package of Predator, as well as Instincts. So basically, Predator, was 2 old games, with slightly advanced graphics. Like the others, it featured a map editor. Characters on online play as basic clones of Jack Carver but can be edited, With clothing, helmets, skin color, etc, the character still has the well known tattoo "Karma" on his shooting arm.

Unless you had previously played, or owned the other Far Crys, Predator was a big let down, and a waste of you money. But for me, i hadn't played the others, so this game blew my mind.

    Future : Far Cry 2

Yes, it has almost come. Far Cry 2, Developed by Ubisoft Montreal, [PS3, Xbox 360, PC] will be released some time in late October. I'm not gonna talk too much about this game, because most of you already know about it, but i will give a brief layout of the game.

You still play as Jack Carver, but instead, the setting is an African Savanna. They have dropped the feral abilities, and are now moving forward to a more realistic, in your face game.

    Map editor:

Ah yes, the coveted Far Cry 2 map maker. It is said it will put other map editors to shame, and i wouldn't be surprised. With over 1,000 items, including cars, buildings, bridges and more, the possibilities seem limitless. I know i will be playing this game a lot longer thanks to the map editor.

    Collectors Edition:

I know i will be getting this game, so i aid to myself, why not go all out and get the collectors edition. For i believe to be only 10 dollars more you get:

    • Exclusive wooden box
    • Original Far Cry 2 Game
    • Limited edition Far Cry 2 t-shirt
    • “The Art of Far Cry 2” Art book
    • Collector 50km² map
    • Making-of DVD

    Sounds epic to me.

Far Future : Far Cry 3

Although there isn't any specifics, Far Cry 3 has been announced. That is all. An Epic Win trilogy, guys, you'll be makin' maps until your dead.

    This is LOCk, signing off.

Also, if you post within like 4 minutes of it being posted, you didn't read it, and your just spamming.
