Hello! I'm Thecairocat, aka Harbingr of Harbingr of Fun. I've been working on an idea for a terraced floating map and I've actually brought a concept-model here with me. It started out as a one-flag map, with the defender base at the top of a series of 'levels' for vehicular play. As it turned out, duplicating the incline on the reverse created an impressive symmetrical map. I have a few questions that I'd like some help with once you familiarize yourself with the layout above.

    • How should I add cover without obstructing vehicles?
    • How should I create safe areas for infantry
    • How should I add railing in a budget-effective way?
    • What sort of pieces should I use?
    • What kinds of vehicles are appropriate for navigating and balancing this map?

These are just a few of my questions, but I figured I'd keep it brief. Any and all comments (even 'this suxors i think u shud dai') are appreciated.

    1. Use elevation changes. That's how hemmorage works.
    2. Catwalks are generally safe for infantry, but don't make the sides too covered, we don't want invincible people on the high ground now do we.
    3. Make the sides slope up in some places instead of railings.
    4. Crenelations and the "Cover" pieces should work well (and look good) on the edges of some pathways to block fields of view across the map
    5. Ghosts, and Wraiths (may be overpowering) should work well because they are extremely manuverable. Revenants and Warthogs skid easily so without a skilled driver, they would probably die most often from driving off the edge. Scorpions, just no. Falcons and Banshees would be ok if you can block off one or two sides of the map (with a cliff or something solid, not killzones). As long as players can know what general direction an air attack will come from. Falcons will have a shorter lifespan because they are slow, but the steady platform will allow the gunner(s) to rain down continuous fire while a banshee must make passes thus cannot fire continuously.

Thank you so much for your thorough and concise response, pyro6666. I remember when you provided extremely helpful feedback for a previous map of mine almost a year ago (you had many fewer posts then). Your thoughts are all very logical and will, without a doubt, lead to a much better map than it would have been without.

I love the idea of using slanted Cover, Glass pieces for the sloped sides, I have a fondness for the piece and will surely find a way to implement them in an elegant yet purposeful manner. I feel that this map will work well hanging right above the water, with the very bottom a few feet above sea level. It will provide a clear visual death-field for vehicles and further display the varying elevation (which, I feel, is a unique and interesting element). Using scale-models from the Sketchup Forge pack, I fear the Wraith will not be able to move well around the space, but the Ghost is a surefire hit. Is two Ghosts and two Banshees too much? What kind of countermeasures could I set in place to prevent complete Banshee-fueled ass-rape by one team? I'm still rather worried about cover for spawns and infantry, so I'll probably have to get creative with spartan-sized anti-death platforms lest the walking man become a toy for those with motorized transportation. Overall, your reply was great and I would be honored to keep conversing with you throughout the process!
