pretty cool find ToXiC. I ran into this glitch accidentally around the time of launch but the thought hadn't crossed my mind to actually use it. Definitely has a nice aesthetic use.

    Ah, de-rendering. Caused by portaling.

I never expected de-rendering to "ignore" particle effects (though I should've, since it did when performing out-of-map bugs in Reach). Great find, OP. :)

Portaling is a Halo map-making technique (for the map itself, not for Forge) that basically lets a mapmaker cut a map into sections. Items in one section won't be rendered if the camera is in another. The trick, as you've noticed, is that items can only be assigned to one section at a time, and this assignment is based on the location of the item's centerpoint.

De-rendering, then, is a bug that occurs when an item protrudes out of one section and into another, causing it to be invisible even when you have direct line-of-sight on it from the second section. De-rendered items can be fired and melee'd through despite being solid. Reach handled them very poorly: de-rendered items couldn't be selected or deleted in Forge!
