It's understandable to think that, there are so many misleading things coming from both companies, or more accurately the media coverage. Also, Drive Club looks really fun. On one hand, you have Sony that seems to clear on their position of DRM, but it will still ultimately be up to the publisher according to the same sources. Then you have Microsoft which says you won't be able to play offline for more than 24-hours because you need to stay connected in order to share games online with up to ten friends. At the same time, the same sources are saying that they are looking into an ability to play games offline at the expense of not being able to share them online. It's very conflicting and I don't think we have heard enough from either company. As for games, I don't think there's any denying that both consoles will have great AAA exclusives. You might not like Halo anymore but there have been great exclusives in the past. Then, there's the notion that PS4 will be better for indie developers; which seems to be the case for launch. I think it is something that Microsoft needs to work on but at the same time, MS had some great indie exclusives this generation like Fez, ilomilo, State of Decay (admittedly unoriginal) and now games like World of Tanks, Project Spark, and other titles. That's not to say that PS4 is left in the dark since they have a large variety of indie titles available at launch and F2P games like Planetside 2. Now, this brings me to one thing that I think especially needs more transparency. Microsoft and Sony are both claiming that they have the ability utilize cloud processing but we need to figure out more about these services. Microsoft is (usually) pretty good at making tools for developers and I think we will have to wait and see how much resources are in it for each company. This technology is great though because it will continuously get more competitive by the year since technology will become more affordable and more powerful each year. What really matters at this point is the architecture of each system, how it works in-game and real applications of the service instead of just an announcement. I kind of hate the term "the cloud" but for what it will do, I am really excited to see what it has to offer since they'll be able to expand on it as the years pass. Edit: Pardon me if I made any spelling or grammatical errors. I'm really tired for some reason.
You for real? First of all, I don't remember 90% of every small detail about what is revealed at gaming conferences. Hell, I rarely remember friends' and family's birthdays most of the time. My ability to instantly recollect things isn't tied to how important they are. Your statement was factually wrong when I found 3 examples that directly refuted what you said. Everything you said after is just your subjective reasoning of why you think the PS4 game is "better" than the 3 examples I gave, that doesn't invalidate them as examples just because you have a particular preference. ...how is it becoming tangential? You said the One had "nothing", I gave you examples that showed it has three free games at launch. You trivializing my point by downplaying the populations of people who care or show interest in those three announced xbox games by emphasizing "someone somewhere probably does think..." can work both ways. I'm sure there is someone (you) somewhere that thinks Drive Club is "noteworthy". That statement does nothing but breed contempt for anyone who doesn't share your opinion. I don't support Xbox Gold's paywall for things such as free-to-play or video services (youtube, netflix, hulu plus, etc) but again, you're saying a statement that's very subjective to what you are interested in while basically lying by saying the Xbox has nothing. It has games. All of this is easily fixed by you simply saying, "I prefer or am more excited for the ps4 free games than the Xbox One's announced games that are behind its paywall" or something to that effect. It shows your opinion on the matter without spewing pure bull that serves little purpose but to troll. But hey, who am I to tell people what to say, think what you want, just be prepared to justify your argument better than "you didn't remember them off the top of your head".
Why is it tangential? Because the original topic it was addressing was about PS+. Not free games or Xbox One. Nor was it about anything else. Everyone here seems to get a wild hair up their ass when anyone says anything negative about one console while liking another. You don't have to buy one or the other. You don't have to buy either of them, I just wanted people to know what they have as options on launch. My preferences have nothing to do with it. It is obvious that PS+ is more value for your money, and anyone arguing otherwise should take a step back, cool off and think for a second. It costs less, it gives you discounts on games, it gives you the instant game collection, and isn't required for anything like youtube or (most*) free to play games. Also, one PS+ subscription will work across PS4, PS3 and a PS Vita. (*it is optional for PS+ to be required for games, from what I read.) Gold, it allows you to watch youtube, netfix and similar subscription based services, apparently now gives 2 games a month for free (unsure if that is just for 360, or X1 as well), lets you do party chat. Both of them let you play online multiplayer for full games, and both allow access to betas/demos earlier than free members. If I missed any features of either, sorry. In any case, what I wanted to get across wasnt the free launch titles for either console or even which console has better free games, but rather how stiff a paywall they put up, and wether or not free to play games are genuinely free on both consoles.
That's not what this is, in fact you're doing that very thing by implying one has nothing while the other has better free games. You don't dictate what the topic is, the thread is about "E3 discussion". You said the xbox one didn't have any free games, I showed you evidence it did. By your logic anyone who says something you disagree with is being "tangential" to the viewpoint you're making. I have repeatedly showed my dissatisfaction over Microsoft's newly announced consumer unfriendly policies (have you been in the Xbone discussion thread?) but that doesn't mean I'll just start lying about what little positives are there. ...you misrepresented what Microsoft will have at launch by saying "they have nothing". If it had nothing to do with your preferences you wouldn't have made the statement and you certainly wouldn't start arguing with me over a simple fact if it had nothing to do with your preference. You could have conveyed the same exact message without mentioning the xbox One by just saying "Drive Club is going to be free for PS4". Ta da, no drama and you aren't misleading anyone by claiming things of the other console that aren't true. It's not that hard to admit when you've made a mistake, if you didn't know the xbox one had free games at launch just say that. If you knew but said the comment anyway then everything I've said here is justified. It's optional in that the publishers can decide, that's not an option the users have. So far a few of the developers of those free-to-play Sony games have stated their games won't need PS+. There's an article on joystiq about that.
