    Hello everyone.

To me, theme is very important in forge maps. Not so much on competitive maps, but I feel flood maps should always have a distinct theme to them. If you can use some sort of visual reference (whether it be an image, a sketch or just a thought in your head) forging will be a lot smoother because you have your goal set in mind and any piece/structure/section that looks different than what you had initially pictured will be a lot easier to eliminate. So basically if you what your end product should look like, then forging it should be alot easier than winging it.

Before I started forging Drillsite, I looked through loads of pictures of oil rigs. I figured out which elements of a drillsite I would actually want on the map. I then chose a sketch as concept art.

I built the map in the same style as in the sketch but incorporated some other things that I wanted such as the helicopter, the dock and an added lower floor. Everything worked out quite well because of the way I used the sketch to stay as close as possible to my overall theme as I could. So my point is, if you don't know what you're forging, don't forge it.

This is just my own personal way of doing things. Some people can freestyle it if they so choose. I just feel that the best maps are thought out before they are even forged.
