Lets say I forge a map and all the pieces are set to 90degrees. I save the map and come back to it the next day, but for some reason all the pieces will be slightly tilted then. It's like the map just shifts. This happen to anyone else? Its bugging the crap out of me.
This happened to me once. All I did was grab each object, let it reset, and let go. After that the problem just stopped. How often does this happen though?
This problem normally occurs with the larger pieces, sometimes no matter what you do, most notable the large brace if your using them vertically as walls or columns. I've seen it however occur when you only use 90 degree's for any and nearly all pieces, as 90 degree's seems to be a sort of pressure point at times for forge pieces, its normally best to use 45 or 15 degree rotational shift. This will give the pieces more balance when placed against eachother in the correct way, they shouldnt shift unless as I noted they are larger pieces, brace large, walkway cover, and colliseum walls are the worse of these. As far as I understand there's always been a slight glitch in the forge system, where everything tries to align itself at 90 degree's or what it see's as its correct degree, most of the time it just takes practice learning how to place them neatly together so the shift doesnt occur or is not even noticeable.
It happens often, just about everytime I open a map. I've been doing what you did and gotten used to it, but it's still a pain in the ars. [br][/br]Edited by merge: Youre right it mainly happens on larger pieces, but its also been happening with 2x4 pieces. is that piece considered large? I guess i'll start using lower degrees and see how that works out. thanks
As far as the 2x4 piece goes, those usually just have to be lined up correctly, the angled edge needs to be pushed flat till theres just a thin line barely noticable between the piece your building it against. This goes for most of the larger block pieces that are 1x block thick or more, after that it shouldnt shift again unless the piece your building it against is slightly taller than it is. Itll never affect gameplay though and shouldnt happen very often, example is a block vs a bridge piece, or brace large .
If you really want to avoid tilt as much as possible, don't use any rotation snap at all... edit the rotation in coordinate menu. The reason the tilt happens is because the forge engine isn't capable of saving perfect 90, 45, etc. degree angles so the game saves it on the closest rotation it can save.
This is a known problem, not with Forge or the game engine, but with the way the rotation orientation information is saved to the disk file. It is when the information is saved that the precision orientation information is lost. It happens with all objects, but is more noticeable with larger objects. See Coliseam Wall Florring Issues. It happens with every object in which you alter the up vector angle (you tilt it off its vertical axis to any side, even slightly). If you only spin it around the vertical axis, you won't see this problem.
