Debate did aesop really exist?

    Ok,I read a story by aesop and I notied the about the author. I have limited knowledge on the subject,but heres what a know:

    Aesop was is the name of a writer that may or may not have existed. If he existed they say he lived in the time of the ancient greeks. he wrote hundreds of storys including (how I learned about him) the fox and the crow. It is highly debated if he truely did exist. the most widly accepted theory s that the greeks invinted an imagonary author for there many storys.

    It does appear that he is to fables as "Traditional" is to songs.
    That doesn't necessarily mean he didn't exist. It is a tricky thing, history...

    I'm not so sure if this is a debate, just more of a trying to prove to ourselves that he really did exist.
