Hello ForgeHub. I am building a minigame map called Trench Run. It is based explicitly on the famous scene in A New Hope, in the Death Star Trench. It was planned several weeks ago, and is nearing completion. The details are not quite necessary though so I'll spare them unless you are interested. Now, I have a dilemma. Realizing that Generator Defense is a Firefight only gametype, I am limited to having to find another way of awarding points to the attacking team for "destroying" an objective. In this case a power core. It would be enough to simply knock the objective into a goal zone or out of one,, depending on the gametype I eventually settle on. I've thought of several solutions, but I realized I could not find the wealth of custom options as there were in Halo 3, for some odd reason. And if there is more advanced Custom Gametype options that I am missing, that would probably solve my problem. The first solution: King of the Hill. The hill is a fusion coil with a huge hill radius. It will be large enough to always encompass at least one red team member, so the hill would be constantly accruing points for red team from the beginning of the round. Round time limit is set to one minute, and point limit is unlimited. In order to stop the Defenders from continued scoring, the attackers would fly their banshees past the defenses and destroy the hill object, thus cutting off the points. The victor, after however many rounds, would be who destroyed the enemy hill the fastest and ensuring they have less points. Plus I want to be able to control the ability of additive points for multiple players in the hill, stuff like that, just to be able to control it. Yet I find no such options. Problem is, there is no options for allowing vehicles to score points (Defending team has turrets, so they would not score) nor is there options for contested hills that I can find. Any help in this would be appreciated. I suppose I could get rid of them, but it would destroy the aesthetic and make defense a lot more clumsy. Second Solution: VIP Have the attackers all be VIPs and simply get into the Power core room to end the round. Problem: No VIP gametype >:/ All other solutions are based on these two prior, but the options to make them work I just can't find. Instead of the VIP gametype I thought of Race, but players are very limited in that gametype. Oi. Any ideas? Am I missing the advanced options?
Build a wall made of dice with a small hole in the middle leading to a wall of fusion coils behind the dice. Hit the fusion coils through the hole to move the dice and open the area behind them where the hill is.
That's a good idea. It wouldnt mesh well with the aesthetic, but having a destroyable "keystone" to open another area to enter and end the game could work in some way. I'll see if I can work with that concept, thanks for the idea! Anymore?
I'm also creating a trench run map and was considering just a simple one-sided bomb gametype. I know it's not an ideal one, though it would allow taking turns attacking/defending, and maybe there's an option to mark whoever has the bomb as "Red-Five".
Multi-flag where everyone on the attacking team is carrying one and can still pilot a vehicle, and the return zone is of course, at the end of the trench. The same as above but with the bomb game: a) One member (Luke) is carrying a bomb and everyone must protect him while he makes his dash to the goal. Set the timer to give him enough time to escape after planting it. This is sounding like Decent! b) Can everyone be carrying their own bomb? Set the armed timer to instant (or very quick) and then 1 person must make the ultimate sacrifice to save humanity. "UP YOOOUUUURRRRS!!!" - Independance Day Or instead of points, you just build the trench out of cores and covenant explosives, surrounded by 1-way shield doors and then put a golf ball on the edge of the trench. When you shoot the ball, if rolls into the hole, landing on a mine at the bottom, detonating the explosives into a big KABOOM! If you could incorporate gravlifts and physical objects some how, there could be debris flying everywhere for a noticeable victory. - Jolan
