I'm new to this site, but I made a few maps a while back that I would love to get some input on. This a symmetrical arena map that works great with slayer games. Like I said I am new, but any type of input would be much appreciated. Thanks. I added some more game types such as CTF and KOTH and one way teleporters to the dishes in an attempt to fix the camping problem there. So here is the new download: http://www.bungie.net/Stats/Reach/FileDetails.aspx?fid=22316528&player=The Roni Deutch
Welcome to Forgehub! Anyways, I really like this map, it reminds me of the days when people could just focus on making a map play good instead of look good. Moving on, this map could look better. A few of the pieces just look thrown together, and they don't really blend well with other pieces. Also, in your second picture, it looks like you're using steep inclines, which really don't feel good when a player walks up them. I also noticed that you use a lot of buildings, which can be used sometimes but it's better if you build your own structures. Also, you should probably add more pictures and label them. This map looks promising, and if you need any help you can add me on Xbox Live. My gamertag is xX I3ush Xx. Again, welcome to Forgehub.
Thanks for the input! I really do appreciate it. I'll definitely try to fix some of the things your were talking about. I'm working on it now trying to fix it up some more and adding game types.
I think the bridge to circular disk will get overused if there is a sniper, or if people are smart with the DMR. I would recommend you removed the bridge and add a kill barrier up there. It will become a hardcore camping spot.
Welcome To Forge Hub This map looks like a lot of random pieces throw around in the coliseum. Yes, you connect the pieces together with walkways, but it still looks like a lot of random pieces. My advice for you is to create a plan. You can create a plan on a 3d Modeling Program or you can do something as simple as drawing it (I do both). You need something so that you can see your map before you build it. It is never really a good idea to start building a map without some sort of plan. I have to agree with the previous posters on the issue about the prefab buildings. It is not a good idea to use too many of them in your map. You need to build structures of your own. You also need to remember that just because it's name is "platform" you don't have to use it as a platform. Get creative use platforms for walls, walls for the ceiling, and whatever else floats your boat. You just need to add some more creativity to the map. You should also think about forging in a different location. So many maps are built in the coliseum, and most of those maps seem to lack originality. Be different. Make your map on the side of a cliff, or maybe in the water. You need to just move it to a different place. I am sorry to give you such hard criticism. I know that you are a new member. I'm just trying to drill you from the start to look for creativity. P.S. Take a look at Sketch Up. Thanks to our buddies here at Forge Hub, you can use the same objects that are in Halo Reach's forge for your planning stages. P.P.S. You can also use the Tester's Guild here on Forge Hub. They will test your map, and then give you feedback on it. They will also give you ways to improve your maps. The Tester's Guild only tests maps that haven't been posted yet so you couldn't submit this map to the Tester's Guild. You could submit your next map for the Tester's Guild to test.
Thanks for the input. I don't mind the harshness of it. I would rather know how to improve and get better. Thanks for all the advice.
Yeah basically what Knight of Order said. This section is for finished maps really, so if you're still at the stage of needing feedback and tweaking (which if you're anything like me will probably be a stage that lasts a while) the tester's guild is a better place to post stuff.
