Daten Why, hello there! This is Inferi, of course. Here is my second completed Reach map (third overall), made specifically for Throwdown. Yes, Throwdown. I wasnt going to enter, but I figure what the hell. Might as well. The competion is intimidating (seriously, have you seen the other maps? o.o) but it doesent hurt to try. Right? Anyways, Daten is a symmetrical map, and is pretty small, even by 2v2 standards. The smaller size and simple layout makes for faster paced gameplay and more focused player movement. I was inspired, if not transfixed, by a show that will remain unamed due to its vulgar (but awesome!) nature, and I designed the aesthetics to emit a heavenly tone that reflects the show without putting a strain on framerate (Hopefully) The main focal point of the map is the higher "temple" area, which has access to rocket spawn and nice sightlines. The main route to this area are the two mirroring ramps on each side, but about a minute into the game a gravity lift will spawn on the bottom side on the balcony, giving players controlling the bottom side of the map faster access to rockets and an alternative route to the higher aeras. The main power weapon is the previously mentioned Rocket Launcher, which is counterbalanced by the Armor Lock located in the center of the map. Two sprints, one located in the nook on each base, a pair of stickies, located in front of the lift, and a few small arms round out the maps arsenal. The main supported gametype is of course Throwdown, but the map also supports Multi-Flag, although this hasnt been tested too much I imagine it would play well. Picture Time! They may or may not be on their way. On that note, many of you have sought my assistance in the graphics department, and I want to thank everyone for trusting me with your sigs and whatnot
I really enjoyed testing this with Confused Flamingo and some other cool kids. The real surprise to me was the size of the map, which made the gameplay intense. I can imagine you have fixed some minor parts and tweaked here and there and would love to give this map another go! Love ya Inferi!<3
I trust you fixed some of my issues? Either way, You worked hard on this, and I certainly enjoyed testing this. I was surprised how your art of graphic design transferred over to a Reach map, because this map has very applicable aesthetics, however, they were usually in the last place you would think to look. Great job.
♥ you too Artic Flamingo, I did fix most of the issues you found in your playtests. I added a lift as an alternative route to topside, and I added some cover in the center. I also switched the Jetpack with Armor Lock, which adds even more cover. And of course, an actual spawn system has been worked in, which works fairly well
