One tip, you should never Flatten Image.
New layer, Apply Image. Simple.

 

I might try it. Wait lock you use GIMP right? Or PS? I can't keep track ne morz. I think you use PS?

Amazing tutorial LOCK. But for some reason, I cant help but feel there were some things left out. For example, that doesnt look like just a sparks displacement...
