If the inescapable headlines and news alerts about the financial crisis still fly mostly over your head, don't feel bad—even business reporters need some help understanding why it all happened, what it means, and what the bailout plan intends to do. At American Public Media's Marketplace, Senior Editor Paddy Hirsch has been using a whiteboard and understandable analogies to explain it to his reporters. It's a bit longer than 8 minutes, but Hirsch doesn't get bogged down in wonky terms or over-simplify things—and visualizing banks as wayward explorers is oddly satisfying. Hirsh also explains collateralized debt obligations and credit default swaps in similarly easy to grasp fashion.

Wow, I wish my finance class was explained in that manner. It would be way less confusing! Matter of fact, news about financial business should be explained in this manner.
