Snipers on an enclosed map with filters on? My favorite! I'm hoping this plays similarly to Crown of Flies and maybe I can make a second jumps video. Great job Chrst.
Wow great map I love in the last pic that doorway that leads to that area there. I also like that edge with the custom power up.
Yes, the map has a very different gameplay style than much of the other 1v1s. It's all about quick spawning, varied weapons with low clip sizes. The idea is to use them for minimal kills, and switch up on your weapons a lot. The BR takes a pretty big backseat here, and I recommend running another weapon with it at all times. Equipment is quite big, especially the power drain, because it lets you use your BR a lot more effectively. Brute shot, Sniper and Shotty are the three main weapons, and there is a CPU is well. PR's and Carbines are quite effective, and there is a mauler to counter the shotty. I'll be honest, the gameplay isn't my personal favorite. Others seemed to like it in testing, and it was a change from the other maps, so I opted to listen to their feedback and keep things the same. BTW the lift sucks
Ive been waiting for this one! It all looks perfect, though nothing can be perfect... Either way i can seee myself playing this everyday.
Sadface. Only one map this week Nevertheless, Contention looks pretty amazing. The 1v1 maps now are much better than the last tournament, which was for 2v2 matches. The third picture just blew me away. Its structures look oh so original. Nice job, chrstphrbrnnn
Even though I've been knocked out of the tournament, I had decided to take a look at this map. The chamber feel, as described in the write-up, is amazing. This feel is attributed to the combination of the ingenious design's feel and the unique, great aesthetics. After playing, I realized the feel is carried over into the actual gameplay. The feel escalates the value of the gameplay experience. Individual battles take place mostly within a chamber. Other times, the map's interesting sight lines allowed me to battle my opponent from chamber to chamber. I found the gameplay to be quick yet strategy intense. The weapon layout is a bit odd, but once you get the hang of it, I believe it work wells. You've done a marvelous job, Chris.
There are so many different fun tactics on Contention. Throwing spike grenades behind fusion coils, pushing coils to secure a area, and messing with your opponents head by being above or below them.
I actually hadn't the time to test this map, but it looks very great. The only thing I don't like is the Teleporter, as they evolving camping. How many Maps will have a teleporter for the next rounds?
Lol, camping a tele in this tourny is not a good idea. And out of the remaining winners bracket maps, all except one.
I'd be inclined to agree, with regards to this map definitely. Tele camping may yield 1 easy kill on Contention, but camping in any form gives this same chance yet doesn't get you very far in the long run. I've always been of the mind that consistent 1v1 play comes from a strong approach, since map dominance doesn't necessarily rely on locking down a strong area by occupying it, but merely containing your opponent so they don't have access to it. Keeping them pushed off of spawn is key in maintaining dominance and keeping the game in your hands, so tele camping is a pretty unwise approach imo as long as the teles aren't implemented in a way which puts one end in an extremely campable area, not the case with Contention at all in my experience.
mmm Sweet smell of a worthy feature. Grats chrstphrbrnnn, the size and layout work well with eachother, and this definitely reminds me of Ivory Tower.... Sexy
Such a fantastic and unique map. I love that its forged into the side of the dunes so you get the sandy slopes in the building. The layout is great and theres some interesting and new uses of objects such as the half walls being used a banisters for the ramp. The spawns and weapon layout is flawless and it plays like a charm, as expected from someone of chrst's calibre. Tis a shame its not large and able to support bigger matches, but it does what it was built for extremely well.
I love how it is focused on aesthetics, yet it looks as though the gameplay and layout is really smooth! 5/5
