So, I have two layouts for my Conquest map. My first two maps are based around completely killing off the horizontal nature of my map and substituting it with the vertical nature. Basically, think Avalanche, but put vertically. Anyways, so I need to decide which way to put the map. I have a choice between setting it up in a 'U' format, or in an upside-down 'U' format. Like this: There are pros and cons to both ways. I just can't decide which one will play out better. Imagine that each of the 5 territories are spread out evenly throughout each horseshoe. Obviously if I do the first one, it will be easier going down from each base than going up. However, that means that conquering the other team's territories will be harder to do, because of the climb up. I could switch it and use the second. But that would mean getting from your base to the middle territory would be harder, due to the 'climbing up' factor. Plus, it would be easier to 'fall down' into the enemy's base and start spawn raping them. What's your opinion, FH?
Maybe you could have spawns in a spawn camp free room. With a shield door and gravlifts so when you spawn you jump up and land on the first spawn, but the other team couldn't come down because of the lifts.
Even if, that doesn't help the point that it'll be significantly easier going down than up. Dammit, gravity.
I'm not sure about the vertical idea, the battle will be mostly on the bottom, but if you pull it off it would be deadly original. I'm not an experienced conquistador, but in combat there should be a constant uphill battle (downhill if retreating) or else the game would end too quick. It would become a battle of speed if you could just bypass your enemy and fall into the other end, thus the U design would be my pick.
I think that people should have to fight up to capture the other peoples areas. If it was the other way around the match would basically revolve around who got over halfway first, it would just be to hard to fight back from that. Maybe you could throw in gravlifts and mancannons that spawn after certain amounts of times to change up gameplay and make it easier to move upwards.
