I'm officially finished with my Prisoner Replica. I'm not as happy with the end product as I hoped I would be, but on to the positives! 1. Scale 2. Ladders 1 - It's a nice 1:1 scale of the map. A few areas are designed different due to blocks used, but the initial walk speed from section to section on Halo 1 versus Halo Reach is exact. The ceiling scale of the enclosed areas on all floors are perfect, which I have no idea why I did that. 2 - Ladders! This is my pride and joy of the map. I built "Working" ladders. The ladders themselves are an aesthetic of course, but you get the idea. If you go up to a ladder and look up, then you will go up the ladder. No "Man Cannon" Ladders. No "Teleport" Ladders. ---- Now that the positives are out of the way, here's a list of negatives. 1. Building to Scale 2. Parts [Yeah...] 3. Budget 4. Framerate 1 - Okay, to start off, building to scale was in my initial plan as I wanted to try and replicate a build close to Halo 1's version of the map. This started out fantastic, but soon turned into a nightmare as I was trying to cover up holes left in between floors. The end result being that the map looks like more of a mess than I was hoping for. 2 - The other problem I ran into was Parts. I'm not joking when I say that the usual parts used in building a map are all sitting at Zero out of their initial starting amounts. As I finished up around 1/2 of the map I looked at my parts left and figured I would be ok, but I was completely wrong as the last 10% of the map was a fight for every last piece. I know right now that I could probably still salvage a very small amount of parts in certain areas, and that some Aesthetics are causing a drop for a few sections. Sad part is once I finished the map I realized where I went wrong in more than a few places. Funny part is I had planned to try and build the ramped floor, but that flew out the window by about 75% into the map. 3 - Budget. Why... 4 - There are a few framerate issues when standing in two specific spots. I'll try and figure out how to clean up a majority of the issues at a later time, but I wanted to release the map since it's technically in a finished state as it is. YouTube - Halo Reach - Confinement [Prisoner Replica] Hit me with Criticism. I know the framerate isn't 200 fps (Joke) and that the map is ugly, but I want to hear your thoughts.
Looks good i always enjoyed this map. Your text editings aren't working because you need square brackets at both ends. You have then </b>. you need then . Same with the s. DL from me nice one XD EDIT: There you go!
i think your putting to much negativity on yourself for this map... i think this map is very nicely done!.... 8/10
a 14 minute walk through video was a bit much though. Good remake, just try and edit down the walk-through to an actual "walk-through" kind of time. 2-4 minutes is all you need for a single player walk through of the map. Maybe 5 - 6 if it is showing actual gameplay.
The actual walkthrough of the video is the first 4-5 minutes. Everything after that is just a rant about building the actual map, and what parts I used. Figured I'd leave it in for those who are curious about the map, but I'll edit the video with a lower timed one. I know, that statement was more of a joke. I should have probably said something more outrageous like 200 fps, haha.
In the original, there was a jump you could perform (a bit of a tricky one) that got you from the 2nd level to the 3rd level. Looks like, from your video anyway, that that jump is missing. Other than that, it looks like a well done remake. Not nearly as ugly as you think.
Late reply to the both of you above, but I attempted to add the 2 secret jumps from the 2nd floor to the 3rd floor. The end result being that I couldn't get it correctly done, so I left it as is. Perhaps when I revisit this build I'll see what I can do about those two jumps.
