I would like some criticism on my video editing. I feel like the trailer I made for an upcoming map is not very exciting or eye-grabbing and even anticlimactic (that might be because the map was in conceptual stages). I was not in the mood to download a trial of After Effects, though I am as I type, so I resorted to Windows Movie Maker. What resulted are the following travesties...

I am looking for general tips on how to capture footage from Reach (panning/moving fluidly) that looks pleasing and then how to go about editing it in post production.

This is not a post for views. I am genuinely trying to improve my video editing. Criticism is welcomed. Move this thread if needed.

Ask a Mod to move it to Halo: Reach Media. It will get a lot more views, sorry i can't really help you with your predicament, I'm horrible with videos myself.

First off, the second trailer is much better than the first, both need improvement though.

Right off the bat I noticed the extremely boring intros in both videos. The long pan shots are what make this so dull. You never want a shot to be more than 5 seconds, but you can get away with them 10 seconds sometimes. Transitions are another thing you need every now and then. Cross Dissolve will be your best friend, but don't abuse him. Also, I noticed that you didn't really align your cuts with the beat of the music. In the second video you did a lot better with this. And since these are trailers, just focus on key points of the puzzles. Shots of your player walking down a hallway aren't important. And finally, cut the "game over" screen out of your shot please.
