Capture Card

A video capture device, or capture card, is a device or motherboard card that can be installed or plugged into your computer through the motherboard inside, or through firewire or USB2 outside. From this device you can plug in a VCR, DVD player, or gaming console in the same fashion as you would to a TV in order to import footage from gameplay, movies, etc onto your computer for archiving, duplication, or editing. Most capture devices come bundled with their own software to assist in the import/editing process, but some do not. A good beginning capture device for Windows is the baseline Dazzle Video Capture device, which can be purchased at Best Buy or Circuit City for less than 50$. For Mac, I personally use and recommend an Elgato EyeTV, which must be special ordered.

There is a grab function that if you are a member, you can type in the video's name that is in your file share, it will download it, and record it.

EDIT: For all of you who don't know, the grab function came back about a month ago.

 

the only problem with gamevee is if your trying to get it to youtube, there is an extremely difficult process to get it there. rip it from the internet, convert it, edit it, post it. also, gamevee puts their icon on the corner of the screen. also for short videos, things less than 10 secs may not be posted.
but in my opinion, gamevee works quite nicely. if you want my to make a thread about how to rip videos from the internet (free), and what converter i use (free) PM me, although most people know.

 

Be warned if you use GameVee: the capture process leaves the time bar on the screen and many find it very annoying and is sometimes a deterrent.

 

thats only if when you record it, you have the time bar there. if you record it with nothing there, then your safe.
