My map works fine in forge, but when I try to load it for a custom game I can't spawn. It just shows me the camera angle from when you die. It won't respawn me, and I can't seem to fix it. I have an initial spawn point and a respawn point. Granted, I did overload my lightmap budget quite a bit so I'm guessing that's the problem. However, I tried deleting every single light and it still says 170% on the lightmap budget. I don't know why it's not changing. Is it stuck forever?? It's called ef 1.7 for the one without lights and ef 1.5 for the one with. Any ideas?
Hey Lettuce, Quick fix on the lighting map - the number of lights doesn't affect performance (up to a certain point), but rather the number of objects that the lights need to be rendered to. Try selecting some of your forge pieces, pressing "X", and going to Object Properties > Light Bake. Setting Light Bake to "off" will tell the engine to not try to color the piece with lighting, which is what you're seeing in the lighting performance. You'll notice the visual effect right away, so try just a couple of pieces and generate lighting to get an idea of what you're working with. A general rule of thumb for good pieces to turn off lighting is ones that are far away and ones that have a lot of vertices, as these are the lightmap "expensive" ones. **************** That being said, that shouldn't be affecting your spawns at only 170%. You say you have a spawn point and initial spawn down... Have you tried placing more than one spawn point down? (Spawn these fresh, in case your existing spawn points have some setting tweaked you're not aware of) Make sure you've got them set to the neutral team, as well. And ensure that they're not blocked by geometry or other Forge pieces, as that will prevent players from spawning. That's just the basic test - can I spawn in my map? After that, you can tweak the settings to your heart's content, but at least you'll be starting from a baseline you know for sure that works. If adding more spawns doesn't help, come on back and we'll see if we can figure out what's happening =)
OMFG thank you Sniper! You are a true bro who knows the true bro code. After hours of fiddling with this I got it twerking. I must admit I at first (lightly) scoffed at the idea of adding more spawn points – or at least thought it unnecessary – because I already had 8 or so. However, I realized I should try putting some in the far corners of the playable map – as opposed to just inside the small refuge I have created for my gametype. This worked! I don't know if it snapped a glitch back into its socket or what, but I set up initial and respawn points in little pairs all over the map (I'm on the one with water and mountains). It didn't initially spawn me where I wanted exactly, and I didn't want to keep restarting the game to see if it would. But, it did respawn me inside my area twice. So, I then deleted all but two of the outside ones to check it again. Still worked. Still spawned me outside. Then, when I went to delete the last two I noticed a red animation area and corresponding camera. I thought, "Hey, I should just delete the respawns, leave this stuff, and come back to delete it if it doesn't work in case this was effecting it at all." However, my frustration won out over my desire for the scientific advancement of humanity, and I deleted them as well (along with the blue ones). At any rate, thank you for your words of wisdom! I was so unbelievably frustrated by this, and I cannot thank you enough!!! I must thank you the only way I know how...a gratuitous meme...
