Can I get your honest opinion?

I'm more than capable of generating my own opinion on games but I do like to pop onto the review sites when others get hands on before me. The problem is you now need to wait months it seems to get an honest aggregated score from the user population. Fanboys rush out to low rank everything from competing platforms leaving you with score ranking lists that are filled with 10's and 0's.

Am I the only one that peruses the zero's and clicks on their reviewers to check for their validity? I've looked at so many console exclusives and time and time again all I see are accounts that either have a single review listed at a zero or a handful of reviews that have 10's for one platforms exclusives and zero's for the other.

Back in the good old days before Gamespot bought out gamerankings.com and removed user scores, you could view a complete breakdown of who voted each individual 1-10 score, as well as filter out score ranges. It was great. As a rule I would filter the 1-3's and perfect 10's on all but the worst raked games to get a more honest opinion. Here we are over a decade later stuck with Metacritics primitive system, laden with fanboy virgins stuck in their basements desperately trying to convince you that their purchase was the most justified.

I doubt anything will change as no-one would want to take in the workload of trying to build a user review site from under the shadow of the powerhouse that is Metacritic, and Metacritic's ego has grown so inflated that they could never imagine their system needs improving. If I could add features to Metacritc some of the things I would love to see added are:

    • individually select and filter any or all of the 0-10 scores from the database to get a new score average
    • get a breakdown showing the exact number of users who voted at each score level
    • offer a comprehensive adjustable user filter that can ignore users who have voted on less than (1-5) games, have only ever voted (1-3), have only voted (9/10)
    • (my personal fav) offer a verified user filter that only shows people who have added their Steam, Xbox, Ps4, Nintendo profiles and show the game listed in their played list. Since we know that all of these services mine usage statistics it would be great if you could also filter users that have played less than a selectable amount of time on an individual title
I guess until somebody gets off their ass somewhere I will have to continue slowly sifting through the crap at Metacritic to come up with my own estimated average scores. **sigh**

Sorry, I felt the need to share, and here is where I linger if I am not out in the real world.

    Thoughts/hopes/desires?

Isn't this just basic internet knowledge lol. You should know your sources by now.

Scores mean nothing anymore these days. Especially 10's or 1's. You can't take that seriously at all.

Even the best or worst games I've played or movies I've seen aren't worthy of 10's or 1's.

I have a handful of sources to use as a directive. Nothing more. After that I make up my own mind.

Yeah well that's my point. I believe there is ways we can filter out the useless and still keep the worthwhile.

Sorry I guess I should read a little better haha.

It's like the stars on google for websites, stores or restaurants, the review of products you buy or anything that the average Joe can buy and then effect your score like he has any understanding of said store/product/whatever. Cowards who don't have the balls to complain in your face but do influence your bread and butter anonymously at home. The most stupid **** has got a review these days.

I have worked as a chef at a restaurant and complaints are something you have to deal with properly. But if you read stuff like a complaint online which nobody of your staff has dealt with that week, you're just a ****ing coward.

You and me have to sieve to the debrees as a consumer but there's a whole lot of people judging scores as truth. Or any info on the internet lol.

Hell I don't even understand the thumbs down on youtube. Brilliant stuff gets downvoted out of spite or hate etc. It's pointless.
