Cadence Created by Reflex lon Recommended Gametypes: Throwdown Recommended Players: 4 Cadence is a girl who could have been my daughter had I dated her mother in high school instead of the woman I'm with today. What's that? I've got the wrong Cadence? Oh yes, that's right, I'm supposed to be writing about the Throwdown map for rounds eight and nine. Let me try this again. Cadence is a multi-leveled, symmetrical map built in the coliseum by Reflex lon. It's unique layout can be often judged as confusing, but I assure you by the end of your first practice match, you'll be able to play on it blindfolded. The design concept for this arena offers mainly close-to-mid range combat, but the two parallel hallways that stretch across the map are perfect for long range DMR battles. However, being at the bottom of these passageways for too long isn't the best option. Plenty of catwalks and windows lie above so gaining height advantage is a crucial tactic. If you do so happen to find yourself being shot at in these corridors you shouldn't be too far away from one of the openings that cut across to the other side. Fleeing isn't the only purpose these open gaps serve; a Concussion Rifle sits on a throne in the middle opening for easy pickup. At the end of the hallways on the high side is a Rocket Launcher laying between two orange antennae. On the opposite side of the map there are two Sniper Rifles that rest on the wall of their corresponding side. Just below them is an Evade pickup that's perched in the back opening on top of the glass floor. If Evade isn't your cup of tea, an Armor Lock pickup can be found in the overpass on the second story. Now that you're done reading the article (you did read it, didn't you?) check out the video and pictures of this here map you're about to download. Once you've sent the file to your xbox come and meet me at Gamestop for the Gears 3 launch party! ...Oh wait, you've got to practice on Cadence, I forgot. Notice: The term "Playing Blindfolded" is just a metaphor. Myself, Reflex lon, or any other staff member are not responsible for any team who loses the competition due to playing blindfolded. Looks very nice, has a nice writeup, and was built by Reflex /win I may actually download this, and I'm note even in the tourney. Haha, Cadence
Oh wow, the map changed quite a bit since the video! And not just by name. I've always liked this one, albeit, when I played Cade with it, I always seemed to get the worst laggy connection
I'm not a big fan of the flickering images thing in the video but the map looks quite good. I might have to check it out even though I'm not in the contest.
Epic! I would like apologize for the questionable usage of pieces in several areas. This is a year-long project, literally started the day I got Reach (the 16[sup]th[/sup] of September last year,) so it still has a few of the things that were not yet known to be 'bad' as fundamental pieces. I'm proud of it though, its my baby ^_^
Epic map is epic. Even with random grass and rock, still one of my top 3 favorites from the entire tourney.
c l e a n. Great use of natural bits here and there, the weapons are very noticeable and go very well with the map aesthetically with the way you placed some on platforms. I'm also a fan of the way you used 4 inclines to create bridges. This is a good map to feature.
This one is a keeper, tourney or no tourney. You don't see many maps of this sort of style, in terms of design and aesthetic. All those months of toil payed off, Cade, and now here is your baby; Cadence. That name still cracks me up.
Any reference to cadence cafe in Calgary Alberta? Didn't think so. Cool map though! YEEEEEEEEEY Rorak still uses the sig I made 'im
From now on, everything I create (forge or otherwise) is called Cadence. Even my dinners are all Cadence, my resume, etc.
Trust me man, as one of the most vocal AL critics on this site: it isn't what you'd think. Having AL as a pickup is a revelation imo. Was going up against an OS guy in H3 frustrating? Well yes, but only because you're likely to lose, not because you feel they've been given a crutch off spawn, they at least had to find and pick it up which often involves timing it and fighting for it. I think roughly the same is true of AL, and AAs in general imo, as pickups in Reach.
For once I'm actually gonna disagree with you on something, Peg! I think this is basically how I expected it to feel, but in practice the advantage of being the only guy with any armor ability (especially if it's evade, armor lock or camo) in a small game is too huge for my tastes. Power-ups like camo and overshield are temporary benefits. Equipment in Halo 3 (which I think is an even closer AA-pickup analogue) was single-use. That meant in both cases you were surprised and distressed to go up against the person who worked to get that benefit, and it was difficult to regain the upper hand and kill them - but the next time you ran into them, their OS or what have you would be gone. It gave them the upper hand in just one or two individual battles, at best. With AAs though, I haven't particularly liked their use as pickups any time I've played a game where you start with no AA at all. I played a 1v1 game on one of the throwdown maps with evade in the middle, and having that evade was nearly as influential over the outcome as having any of the power weapons. I can only imagine that armor lock is potentially even worse, at least in a game with so few players (I think it matters less in a traditional 4v4 game). I'm willing to try it and see, of course, but I think I'd like this better if it was all sprint starts with a single armor lock - at least the person without the armor lock has the option to sprint away to the sounds of "Yakety Sax."
