What: Borderlands is among the finest of a new emerging genre of custom games known as RPGs. If by some happy chance you were born under a rock that stands for “role-playing game”. In traditional RPGs, characters assume a role to overcome a certain obstacle, interact with other characters in the world, and fight various adversaries along the way. Borderlands is no different as it draws its theme loosely from Gearbox Software’s “Borderlands” and similarly puts a party of heroes together in search for the fabled Vault. Teams must collect 3 keys (armor abilities) scattered throughout Forge World in order to solve the Vault’s puzzles. Upon completing the three challenges, deep inside the Vault teams must score 15 heads to win.

The entrance to the Vault. How are you going to get past that kill ball?

Who: There are five factions players can choose from before the game begins. Three are primary factions all vying to reach the Vault first, while the other two provide the environmental “bandit” element to make reaching the Vault all the more treacherous. Respawn times are set to 45 seconds so teams must take care to “get along” with other opposing factions. At first anyway, because the last thing teams want is an all-out faction war with the secondary factions also nipping at their heels. Think of it this way. Diplomacy is conducive for healthy key collecting, but not for skull collecting. War is GREAT for collecting skulls, but not so much for retaining those hard to find keys attached to your VERY feeble body. Your faction’s job is to find the right balance, while avoiding the unpredictable element of the secondary factions.

    Primary Factions

    Crimson Lance (Red Team)
    Minimum Players: 3
    Maximum Players: 4
Victory Condition: Collect all 3 keys, reach the vault, score 15 heads.

    Eridians (Blue Team)
    Minimum Players: 3
    Maximum Players: 4
Victory Condition: Collect all 3 keys, reach the vault, score 15 heads.

    Vault Hunters (Green Team)
    Minimum Players: 3
    Maximum Players: 4
Victory Condition: Collect all 3 keys, reach the vault, score 15 heads.

    Secondary Factions

    Raiders (Orange Team)
    Minimum Players: 2
    Maximum Players: 3
Victory Condition: If the game timer runs out before any of the primary factions can complete their victory condition, Raiders win.
RAIDERS CANNOT PICK UP ARMOR ABILITIES.

    Assassins (Purple Team)
    Minimum Players: 1
    Maximum Players: 2
Victory Condition: None. The Assassins role in Borderlands is to receive verbal and message kill contracts from the primary factions while trying to avoid being wasted by the Raiders. Since the primary factions will find themselves playing nice with each other (at first anyway), the Assassins provide them the secret opportunity to attack the other factions indirectly without drawing attention to themselves. Does one of those blasted Eridians have a key your faction is missing but technically you both are at peace? No worries, send the Assassins a kill contract to have that smug Eridian killed. Assassins only kill those whom they have contracts for, and if any player kills an assassin for any reason, prepare to have another secondary faction who wants you dead all the time. If an Assassin is charging you, run away because defending yourself could mean a new mortal enemy. Assassins be sure only to accept contracts from players for one target at a time. Upon completion, be sure to tell your client the job is done and ask politely for a new contract. They will be more than willing to oblige.
ASSASSINS CANNOT PICK UP ARMOR ABILITIES.

Where: The Borderlands map utilizes a vast majority of Forge World. All primary factions will have a base equipped with specific vehicles, weaponry, and one of the three keys needed. Teams can quest throughout the map to locate better weapons and vehicles which will be needed to survive long enough to organize an expedition to the Vault. All three unique keys can also be found in shrines throughout the wilderness.

When: The game lasts for 45 minutes. If a primary faction can score 15 heads before then, the game will end automatically.

This reminds me of factions invented by "The Hat of Win" (other wise known as "Hat") only with objectives, which I like. But with those objectives come with a'hell of alot of honor rules. I have doubts that, unless you join the factions gruop and get some of them to join and play your game, (providing they know the rules,) then the lobby will die before the timer runs out.

I can see this to be fun, and would like to play a game or so, but only with these people. They understand the concept of in-game RPGs and gametypes of the like. The roles would be played properly with these players and make the game enjoyable.

heres a link to the blog. you'll find players here.

Thanks for the link. We have run the game dozens of times now without a hitch and I forget that not every player out there is as awesome as our gaming group. We'll be running a game for this week's TGIF if you're interested.

I would like that. maybe there will be a whole group dedicated to factions this time. I remember awhile ago it was one groups way of ending the party. Who knows maybe Hat or others will go into this more. (totaly suggesting you do if one of you read this)

I dont have the proper amount of time to make a proper rant and i know you probably said what you said beause you dont know otherwise but you cant give full credit to Hat for making factions. 3 people made fac1 and one left to eat and we deleted what he made (for good reasons). If your going to give credit for factions again, include me in the credit. However you probably wont find me on the blog because after me and Hat had that big fallout in one factions game i havent talked to him and I play with another large group of factions players including Zow and Flynaxxis.
