Well I was pondering ideas for switches and such in Halo: Reach recently and came up with something. It's not a switch and it's not difficult to make. What is it? Two words; BOOST PADS. Boost pads have been in racing games from the beginning and give drivers an extra speed boost when driven over. My idea is to implement these into Reach Race gametypes. Here is how I imagine creating them in Forge, and let me tell you it's quite easy: 1.) Phase a man cannon into the ground just below the surface. Make sure its "effect direction" is parallel to the ground as to propel the driver forward. 2.) Place a "boost indicator" (something to indicate where the boost pads are) Here are a couple ideas I have for indicators: PAD: Phase a flat object into the ground at the location of the boost pad. Make sure that it only protrudes slightly from the ground as to not cause too much turbulence when driven over. GATE: Create a gate big enough for a vehicle at the start of the boost pad to indicate its location. Possibly add flashing lights NOTES: You can also create several levels of boost power depending on which man cannons you use.
I could see this working like this; you could use the pads for mid-race boosts, and use the gates for checkpoints. Both would give you a boost, but the pads would give you a bigger boost than the checkpoint boosts.
It's a nice idea but you gotta remember that the wheels wont speed up when the vehicle goes over the cannons, which was why the effect didn't work well in halo 3 either. Good idea but keep that in mind.
It would boost you for a little while which could be that little amount that makes you win. But if it boosted you just before a jump or into shield door it would go for longer. Something to think about.
did you not read this WWWilliam? unless the man cannon lifts you in the air, which is not really what you want as you lose control, then you will get slowed down if anything
Not true. Momentum lets you move faster for a short amount of time. But eventually you will slow down to as fast as your wheels carry you. That's what Ben was implying.
but in halo 3 the grip on the wheels caused loss of speed, making you lose speed. But without playing Reach, we cannot really say what is possible :/
