Blasphemer NEW PICS!!! Here is my latest creation. An Asymm map built in the Quarry. I tried to keep it simple to the point and with some aesthetic appeal. I didn't go to crazy with it for two basic reasons 1. Framerate and 2. Its my $5000 contest entry. The idea was to make a map that fit in that budget, played well and supported at least 8 players. My assumption was that most entries would support fewer players so I wanted to make it a "decent" size. So here it is! NEW PICS!! Also added more central spawns. Removed a few bad ones. Adjusted some kill zones. Added some structural pieces. And some CONES!! I also tried messing with the towers and I just can't seem to come up with something I like and fits the budget too. So to all the complainers and haters, DEAL WITH IT! <3 In This one I added 5x5 flats under the bases In this one I added Cones to the rock ledges because it was a heck of a lot cheaper than adding some type of railing. Note to Nutduster and Scorch: Watch where youre going! The rest are just some extras taken at an earlier date These are my solutions for the time being for a LOS problem and the stair problem I added these two pillars to block a LOS that seemed problematic And I removed the stairs and did this. Its still possible to go up but now it should be more evident that it wasn't intended for that purpose. Weapons are as follows 5x DMR's 3x NR's 2x AR's 2x Plasma Pistols 2x PLasma Rifles 2x Needlers 2x Shotguns 1x Sniper 1x Rocket Launcher 4x Plasma Grenades Hopefully I'll be able to upload a few more pics when I have a bit more time. And as always Constructive criticism is welcome Enjoy
The map looks good and seems to have sufficent cover. Although it looks as though whichever team controls the needlers will win here.
Now, there's something you don't hear all that often. Map looks pretty good, 'rilla, and I look forward to playing it soon. You misspelled the name in your thread title though.
In the few 2v2 tests I've done the needler hadn't been too threatening. people generally gravitated toward the sniper and rockets... Thanks for the heads up on my bad spelling ND. I was in a rush haha [br][/br]Edited by merge: Edit. Fixed it. Thanks again
I liked the game play on this one a lot. I still wish there was a little more cover on the open/cliff side of the map. I have to ask, the coliseum walls on the left side of the first pic; are they taller for the sake of callouts/orientation? Otherwise I would just lower it to match the other side, but no biggie. I look forward to this one's release.
Yes That, and jet packers and whatnot. We got a couple really good games on this last night. I may be doing some major work on it soon. But that is all depending on the ideas I formulate. Budget permitting of course.
This map looks very clean and well thought out. It seems that a lot of times when people build in the quarry, their maps seem to reflect asylum. That is not the case here. I love what you have done with the budget, the only thing I really don't like would be the two pre-fab buildings. Yet I am sure that they are there to cut down on cost and object count. I would love to get a game on this if you are in need of testers.
Funny enough, the only time I was inspired to do a map in the quarry, it was because I had an Asylum-like idea. I agree that the quarry (and the coliseum also) tends to inspire some predictable maps... this is not one. I second that. I'm just not a fan of them in most contexts and the awesome center structure here feels and plays so superior to the pre-fab buildings. If you're looking to make any significant changes, Sir Granola, I'd start there. Or make a realistic model of a ***** in the middle. Totally your call.
Thanks! I did put a lot of thought into this. I do agree about the prefabs and I generally hate them as well. But like you already guessed, I used them because of budget and piece restraints. And I'll add you on xbl. And we'll get a test on this sometime. I like more opinions. [br][/br]Edited by merge: Actually I'm thinking of removing the two towers and making two identical penises and renaming the map Sword Fight.
HAHA...that would be a perfect name. OT: After looking at the pictures are you able to go in the bottom of the pre-fab buildings? If so I think I like that even less. Anyways, ya add me on XBL and I we can play a game.
The updates looks solid. I like those new pillars but I think they may look better as single rather than stacked, and then jet packers can get on them. I like the LOS breakup they provide. As for the jump up point, have you considered a crate instead of that stub of an incline? I think that would look better and would add accent to the balcony and say "jump point".
Thats actually a pretty good idea. I may try that if tuesdays test finds my solution to be a bad idea.
