September 4, 2008—A supermassive black hole at the center of the Milky Way has wound up in the crosshairs of a virtual telescope spanning 2,800 miles (4,506 kilometers).
Ground-based radio telescopes in Hawaii, Arizona, and California aimed at Sagittarius A*—also called A-star—obtained the image (above, a previous image of the black hole).
The star is believed to mark the position of a black hole four million times the sun's mass.
Though unproven, there is strong evidence for the existence of black holes.

(Related: "Hundreds of "Rogue" Black Holes May Roam Milky Way" [January 10, 2008].)
The black hole companion of Sagittarius A may be shunning the limelight now, but Shep Doeleman, an astronomer at MITs Haystack Observatory who led a recent study on the object, said it can't hide much longer.

Doeleman and his team say the source of the radiation is probably a disk of matter swirling toward the black hole, or a high-speed jet of matter being ejected from it.

"Now that we've shown it can be done, it's just a matter of time before we'll have very detailed information about what happens as matter is drawn near to the black hole and disappears forever," Doeleman said.

Their research appears tomorrow in the journal Nature.

Thats nice that we can see it but it really is kind of point less to learn about them. If one evert hits us well...we are screwed wether or not we know about them. They trap light I dont think we can escape one if light cant . lol cool pic though

Kinda not that great. To me I don't care, just saying. I only will if its closer to Earth. But I have never seen a black hole, cool! Thanks for showing me what it looks like.

He took it in the real life map known as 'space' we know alot about space just wiki 'outer space' and you can see the research done on this quite impressive map. Watch out though once every billions apon billions of years during gameplay a supernova spawns killing everything.

black holes are scary. They are not staionary they move, and its scary to think about the senario of one in our galaxy.

Since the blackhole is in our galaxy, scientist will be able to caculate the exact, year, month, day, hour, minuite, and second when it will destory earth. Whats scary about this is that we will know this information 20 years before the blackhole reaches us.

Thats 20 years of knowing when the world will end in this senario. Now think about that 20 years of no goverment, no morals, theift, murder, chaos, no human order what so ever. Everything will be useless money will be worthless. Life would be pointless to live. Thousands of years of human history gone. Every great single achivment, and memory, gone no one to know what happend no one to remember.

Huh... that doesn't really look like what you'd think a black hole would look like. Common sense would dictate that they would just look like holes that were black.
But that's more like a... glowing cloud.
I once read, though, that the actual hole in space that creates these masses is about the size of a pinhead. None have actually ever been photographed either on account of the amount of matter that's always being sucked into them.
