Battleships Created by: Spawn of Saltine & NlBBS Required Gametype: HIT! Players: 4-16 All hands, man your battle stations! This one is one heck of a doozy. “Doozy? What is a doozy?” It’s a word in the English language, a noun, but that doesn’t matter right now. What we need to worry about is this fabrication of the machinations of nibbles (sorry, NexogeN (STOP CHANGING YOUR NAME N0OBS!) ,) and Spawn of Saltine. Machinations! That word fits perfectly, see; they managed to turn the game of advanced, strategic naval warfare into a lackadaisical arena of chance and circumstance! They corrupted the ideals of a childhood game into a mindless digital array with the sole purpose of fulfilling your desire for Battleships! Yes, that is exactly right, Battleships! They did it, they made it! Huzzah! Before you ask, yes of course I will tell you how to play. First, however, I need to explain the thing! The most imperative aspect of the nostalgic strategy game, other than the mano a mano DUAL TO THE DEATH, was the isolation. The separation. The giant wall where you put your little red and white markers that was always a pain in the butt and never tall enough to block all of your opponents side from view. How could they have recreated that in a first person shooter!? They did it with the busy little glitch allowing certain warthogs to fire high-velocity shells through seemingly solid walls, of course. So take a wall, several warthogs, two reasonable teams, and sprinkle in a turn-based system exploiting King of the Hills zones or something, and you have this brilliant interpretation of Battleships, straight from the minds of Buffoon and Spawn of Saltine. So sit back, crack a can of Dr. Pepper, and party reasonably. [bungievid]21011182 [/bungievid] Download Battleships You can view the original map thread by the author here. This is pretty well-deserving. I never found this game particularly fun (although it had it's moments), but this is very creative. It's unique, and exploits a glitch in a pretty cool way, definitely good for TGIF lobbies. good work Buffoon and Spawn of Buffoon.
I probably shoulda given some props to BT, since even the map creators couldn't help me out with the pixorz, but this works I guess. *hands BT props* Oh, and I'll just leave this here...
"Six Journos and Yoyo is still doing features?" "This feature is way overdue!" "Rabble Rabble!" /stuff that will probably be said in later comments anyway so I'll go ahead and say them. Regardless, this map is well deserving of this feature. Every game played on it is phenomenal. There are no cheap tactics to get around the ingenious system this gem is built around which makes for a good time no matter what kind of customs you play in. Great job [Insert whatever N-word he is at the time this is read] and Spawn. :]
Yeah, this map was definitely gonna get featured for a while, but no one knew how to edit the pictures So I did it (and pretty much every pic for the last month) for the Journos I digress. Loved the map when I tested, love it now, hope it gets more love in the future. It really is an interesting glitch, creative map design, and a fun time all rolled into one. Oh, and if you guys who play this map dont approach the gametype with some strategy, you're gonna get your Battleship sunk.
To be honest, I'm not surprised this got a feature. It's got very interesting gameplay, and a well thought out map. Shooting at a gray wall didn't scream "fun mini game" to me, but I suppose it's better than nothing right? Congrats either way for the feature.
I think I agree with Darth Human. Shooting at a gray wall isn't exactly fun, and almost all of my friends would hate it even more if I ever showed them this map. However you still made it reasonably fun and its a very unique minigame. Congrats to both of you!
What? No Poll? I think it's an amazing port from board game to FPS. It hits the nail on the head with its own unique twists at the same time. Although some people are saying it's not fun because you're "shooting at a grey wall", you're failing to open your mind as you did with the original Battleships... With the board game you weren't just saying "D4", you were playing a game of chance and hit or miss. It's exactly the same with the only different being you're the crew on one of the Battleships. I honestly don't think there could be a better version of Battleships brought into a Halo environment. Well done guys.
I remember playing this awhile back. It is a very unique mini-game and I'm glad to see it get a feature. Great work, guys.
That is really cool that you made NIBBS and Spawn of Saltine (as I coloured your names as you guys have). A Battleship map remake? That's s-s-so cool I can't even describe this map, I played the actual game of Battleships siece I was around 7-8 years old. And now it's in Halo Reach. I'm so totally download that map and gametype. If my friends play with me and hopliy they stop playing Minecraft. Excellent Work guys. I suppose I'm just bumping the general opinion, but I definitely found the game more cool than fun. However I did have a good time blasting around at times and all in all it's more fun than most mini-games are in the first place. All in all, it is original and still quite better than most, so I'm happy.
Battleship Official Trailer #2 - Rihanna Movie (2012) HD - YouTube I can't wait for the movie version of this minigame.
Oh hey man this is a pretty kickass looking map man, download pending. Anyone want to help test it can usually get atleast 10 players if people want to join just message
FINALLY. This deserved it. Just the sheer facts that it's fun, looks great, plays well, and is a great interpretation of the actual game battleships, is why i'm glad to see this get what it deserved.
Thanks for the support everyone. If you didn't like it I'm not offended. Stevo's comment sums things up very well imo. I was told to post this very immature video here, but still worth a watch nonetheless. Also, Nibs wasn't mentioned for some really odd reason. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWqu53L1e5Y&feature=player_embedded#
To echo some of what I've already read, this gametype is bazaar and yet still entertaining. I appreciate the work and little tweaks it took to get the map into a playable arrangement, so despite it not being on my top-5 chart, congrats!
