So, which one are you going to buy, the more graphical powerhouse of the Sony PSP2 with all its gimmicky features (six axis, back touch panel etc), and beautiful OLED screen with PS3 like games.

Or....the, better graphics than the Wii, interesting 3D tech Nintendo 3DS. Games will be pretty expensive and well...nintendo games...so not the hardcore line up of the Sony PSP2. Though the idea of 3D tech that you don't need glasses for intrigues me and could lead to a future 3D technology for future consoles.

Or will you be getting none of it because you are just fine with your iphone/ipad/Android or some other reason.

The last handheld I had was the Nintendo SP (the one before the DS) and in all honesty I don't miss them. Since I had an ipod touch I've noticed that I don't really care for "full" games on a device I can't quite fit in my pocket. I don't often have the opportunity to play handheld games or the time frame to give that game its just deserts so my ipod does just fine to fill any times when I want to waste time or I'm away from a TV and console. So I won't be getting either of them but the 3DS certainly intrigues me more and I would probably get that one if I wanted to.

    Nintendo 3DS.
You can't play Pokemon on any Sony handheld, and that's all I use my portables for.

This. This. Ocarina of Time. And this.

But in all seriousness, the only factors left for me is the battery life comparison, the rest of the announced titles before and after launch, and the main think the NGP hasn't announced: a price. The problem for Sony is, it's clearly an expensive device, using not only a touch pad behind it's touch screen, sixaxis gyroscope, wifi, but 3g cell phone connectivity, almost certainly places the barebones price point anywhere between 50-100 more than the 3DS. What I hope happens is that Sony decides to out the standalone price at a competitive level with the 3DS, and then go all out with the marketing for package deals for the NGP (cell contracts/subscriptions, case sets, packaged games with strat guides, etc) to allow for more profit from the NDS, without having the price point be a major issue for consumers when comparing the two portables.

If Sony goes for 350+ for the barebones PSP2, then I'm going Nintendo.

You also have to consider the ipad, although it's market is fairly small the potential for indie games on that platform has great potential.

Thus why I included the other category. I didn't give it its own poll because its priority isn't a game platform, its been out for awhile, and its not considered to be the same as a gaming handheld.

And who voted for the jungle?

I always see 3DS and PSP games and think it'd be fun to play them, but with my current schedule I literally can't think of a single time to play them other than at my house. And, if I'm at my house, I'd rather play on my 360 or PS3.

Handheld games lost their appeal to me after the original Game Boy. If I want a portable device to carry with me everywhere, I'll just bring my laptop. Everything else will just make my eyes get worse due to the small screens.

PSP2 has two sticks, that's all I need to know to say I want one. The problems with the original PSP were that it only had one stick and the fail-ass UMD format. The lack of good games was another knock, but tbh I feel this was in part due to the failings of the platform itself. In theory it had great potential for FPS games which would really interest me, but I played CoD on it and you had the use the face buttons (yes, the face buttons) to aim, which is so stupid it's hard to believe they even bothered making the game.

Gimme two sticks and a decent memory format and you've got my money already, though maybe not on release cause I'd need some solid titles first. I think the PSP2 has the potential to really bring the portable market out of the novelty sector, in the sense that we could finally see portable games with decent, even impressive graphics (though obviously still lagging behind the full console market). The PSP was soooo close to being there, I still look at GTA Liberty/Vice city stories and think 'wow, that's on a portable console, it looks awesome.' It just fell short due to the reasons I stated above. I can't wait to try out CoD again on the PSP2, portable BLOPS would be insane.

As for the 3DS, it looks awesome. Probably not something that I'd buy cause the only Nintendo portable game that interests me is Golden Sun, though having said that I'm sorely tempted to buy a DS solely on that basis, I loved GS 1 and 2 more than it's possible to put in to words. Still, maybe not my cup of tea overall but the 3DS looks like a really sweet piece of kit, Nintendo seem to be carrying on their newfound approach of not bothering with the hardware spec war, instead focusing on one really cool and highly marketable aspect to draw, or even create, their own section of the market, be that movement with the Wii or portable 3D with the 3DS.
