Hey all, I'd like to show you my entry, Babel, to the FFA contest 343 and CA are currently hosting. Description Vertical map, just as much action up/down as the usual horizontal action. Fast paced, action packed map with various ways to get to different levels, using stairs, mancannons or teleporters. Three main levels and one small walkway between mid and top. This large tower could be seen as 4 connected smaller towers with each a different color. Weapons are placed using ordnance as that works best for this map. Frag grenades on the 4 walkways and hammer in the center are fixed and respawn. Initial ordnance of SAW, needler, railgun and concussion rifle on mid level. Random ordnance of needler/sticky detonator/concussion rifle on the bottom level, random ordnance of saw/shotgun/railgun on the top level. Map is too small to feature rockets or snipers. Gametypes Can play slayer, oddball, king of the hill and regicide. Possibly flood too. Max amount of players is 8, could be FFA, 2 teams or even 4 teams. Screenshots Central area, hammer spawn and mancannons to the top floor. Loadout camera for blue team, map overview Top area, showing teleporter to bottom level Fight on top area Mid level, showing mancannon access Side view, showing access ramp from mid to bottom level Bottom view, showing teleporter, drop from mid level, platform to center, ramp to mid level HD versions of these screenshots can be found on my file share Video Unfortunately, I don't have a capture card. I do have a saved film with a quick walkthrough, you can find it here. This version was finished it yesterday, just in time for the contest, but I'm very curious what you think.
Alright, thanks for noticing! Was trying to hotlink from to the file share. Re-uploaded the screenshots to TinyPic.
Hi JKaddict, thanks for your feedback! I appreciate it. Had a busy weekend, so didn't had much time to check and give a detailed reply. The lights sticking out so much is a little too much, I agree. Although I like the glow the lights give, really gives each 'tower' its own atmosphere. The towers are a little too similar without those. I'll try some variants and post a new screenshot within a few days.
in case you didn't know, you can hide the lights inside walls/pieces and the glow still shows through...
Ah, always had trouble doing that back in Reach, glad that's fixed then. Here's a new screenshot with the lights hidden within the mancannons.
