In your opinion, Is the Band Avenged Sevenfold a Christian Band or Not? Does not have to be the whole band but in my family's opinion, At least half the members must be christian to count. In this case, Majority - "Dear God" is a song with a nice big reference to the bible in the title AND throughout the song. And Yes, I know Johnny Flips Off the Camera, But i never said i thought he was christian, Did I? No. - "A Little Piece of Heaven" has yet another god reference in the title - "Beast And The Harlot" Is about a Bible verse in the book of Revalations, The Verse is about a beast (The Devil) And a woman (Representing Sin) And not only that but Matt Shadows actually describes said Beast in part of the song - Listen to the lyrics of "Afterlife" right before the solo.
Just because they reference the stuff doesn't make them that kind of band. Are they trying to convert anyone or intentionally informing them about it for religious purposes? Death Metal bands reference Satan, God, Heaven, and Hell constantly, but they are not Christian bands. Avenged Sevenfold is definitely not a Christian band.
This is a waste of a thread. Debates should be about more general topics involving ideas that people actually care about. The answer to a debate should be unclear and contested; not straightforward and simple. The idea of a band being Christian or not wouldn't spur a back-and-forth argument for either side. And it's such a narrow topic that there would hardly be any evidence to prove anything.
Many bands reference a god or religion in general to create a reference to something else. Allusions are popular in media.
YouTube - Avenged Sevenfold - Dear God (Music Video + Lyrics) YouTube - UnderOATH - Some Will Seek Forgiveness, Others Escape YouTube - The Devil Wears Prada - "Hey John, What's Your Name Again?" YouTube - As I Lay Dying - Forever YouTube - Saosin "You're Not Alone" YouTube - August Burns Red - Existence (NEW SONG!) - Constellations There is too much Christian metal ;_; A7x is Catholic though.
Close Enough. See guys? Dow kind of agrees with me! And there is can never be too much christian metal, Because a new band (My Band) is stepping onto the Christian Metal/Punk's Boat so to speak when Rock Band Network goes live
Just because the band members are a certain religion, it doesn't make them a religious band. A religious band is one that incorporates their religious messages into their songs for the purpose of educating/converting listeners about that religion.
Debates are full of philisophical inquiry. Unless you can make a point of this being deeper then wether or not some band you like is christian, well... Inb4lock
If you have ever seen devil wears prada or underoath live, they literally say "Just so you guys know, we are a band of Jesus Christ" and then half of the crows cheers, and the other half is like >_>
So? Are they trying to spread the word and get people to accept Christ? If not, they are not a Christian band.
LOL! My friends saw Underoath live a couple weeks ago and they're like: "How do you guys like one of the Very few Christian Metal Bands out there, Huh?" *Crowd screams including my friends* Even though all six members of both Underoath AND Devil Wears Prada are Active Christians?
Hell, if all it takes to become a christian band is to make references about god or a bible topic in the songs I think Slayer is a priest now. They are not a christian band, they just use the stories of the bible for song lyrics.
