Welcome back old friend... Hello there fine forgehubber! If you've been here since Halo 3's prime then I am almost positive that you have heard of Rifte Gifle's Asset. If not then boy did you miss out. Due to the lack of the VIP game type in Reach it has yet to be recreated (to my knowledge). This is until now. So how it works... Asset in Reach as I have done it uses Invasion as its base gametype. Note, Asset is NOT Invasion nor should it be treated as such. Invasion allows for Human vs Covie combat which is of course ideal for Asset. Asset only uses the first phase quickly cutting off the other two. If you are on the ODST (Human) squad you will spawn with a core in a room with 10 seconds to get the hell out. Who ever picks up the core then becomes Vergil the Asset. The round is 1 minute (shortest possible round) with no limit on sudden death. Once that minute has passed, if Vergil is killed or drops the core for any other reason the round will end in a covenant victory. You must use team work to protect Vergil at all costs until transport arrives to deliver him to the destination. As for the other 2 phases those consist of instant territory capturing which only carry the game on another 3 seconds or so. The only real difference is lack of proximity traits. The game is still in early production, but technically this wouldn't be a map preview. Any questions? Disclaimer Obviously I didn't come up with the idea. Sounds like the gametype is good, but can you couple that with great map? Let's hope so because I want this to be awesome.
I'm waiting for inspiration for a holdout style map. I don't plan on forcing any ideas, but I do have a few for escort style. Both maps and the game type will mod likely all be released together.
How do you plan to incorporate the escape mechanic? You know, like how in the Halo 3 maps a Hornet or something would spawn after a while and would let you escape the map and score? Edit: Nevermind, I understand now. Sounds very clever, I never would've thought of remaking Asset this way. I can't wait to see how this plays out, and I can definitely see myself making a map for this gametype in the future.
Ooooooohhhh Asset. What a great game that was. I'd love to see its rebirth in Reach. I'd love to assist with its development. Aren't we already friends Snipes?
The only major draw back is the absence of proximity traits which was kind of a leading aspect of Asset in Halo 3.
We may be. My old gamer tag in Halo 3 was Mr iPod Touch. I haven't played Reach in quite some time now so I'm sure a lot of my friends from customs have removed me. Indeed, which is why I'm looking for a way to make up for it. Not the proximity traits themselves but a balance in gameplay so being near the asset is much more crucial than being away. Right now I'm thinking maybe lower the Assets OS to 3x.
