WTF! My friend secret was banned from FH??????? --- Double Post Merged, Feb 1, 2017 --- With the advent of Forge5, there is no longer any excuse for not being able to create dev level quality maps both in game play and art. While with past forge some forgers (not naming any names here purely fat!) would argue that they don't have to consider art because game play is far more important and the skins just don't support the game play (which is BS, but I digress), that excuse no longer exists. Forge5 makes absolutely clear who has true artistic talent and who does not. The hysteresis is remarkable. (You go goat!)
Everyone has different priorities. This is the first iteration of Forge that has really afforded both the artistic leaning people and the gameplay leaning people equal opportunity to shine at the aspect they're most interested in. I'd probably say it's leaning more towards the artistic end of the scale personally. With that in mind, I can understand why someone who prioritizes art over gameplay would take pleasure in pointing out the artistic shortcomings of those who have spent time during previous games scrutinizing their level design ability (or lack thereof). The whole argument is entirely pointless though. Everyone should build what they want to build, and let other people do the same. Seriously, if what a person makes in forge is satisfying to them, then they aren't going to give a damn what anyone else thinks about it. And if they aren't satisfied with it, no amount of praise from others is going to make a damn bit of difference. So I guess my response to this entire thread is "Who the hell cares?" But by all means everyone go on arguing. Half the time I don't think you all are even serious, but are just arguing as a form of entertainment or something. So carry on, because I need something to read when I wake up in the morning.
But this is one of the biggest problems, dev maps are far too detailed and cluttered. Which is the main reason why pros complained so much that spartans were blending in too well with the environment. It's easier and more optimal to use a minimalist approach to aesthetics when making core maps. It is not an excuse in the slightest. Infact, I can bet you any of the forgers who made the maps I mentioned could probably make a "beautiful" looking map if they tried. This may be an unpopular opinion but honestly I don't believe Forge is at the stage where it can rival the balance of dev level detail without having many aesthetic inconsistencies. Even if it could, my opinion would not change as to why some forgers prefer minimalistic detail.
I'm a troll and I knew you would get pissy. haha I like poking bears. But things are good for me. Unless you are talking about how I act on this forum... Then I am a troll and purposefully present my opinion in a way that makes people uncomfortable because people usually show their true nature. FYI if you see me spam butter emotes I am definitely trolling. I honestly don't care if you think technical cover is bad or good. It is just a matter if it plays good and is passable in the aesthetics department. Obviously, the goal is for both to be great but I often find that it is better to work with your strengths than you weaknesses because you don't want strengths to become a weakness. Your weaknesses improve overtime while you continue to work on your strengths. If you go into a project with a goal to work on your weaknesses then the areas that you would excel in normally will suffer. --- Double Post Merged, Feb 1, 2017 --- You found out my secret.
*Looks at goat's maps* I really disagree. I perceive you are confusing visual noise with quality of map. There are a number of maps here at fh that demonstrate the same quality as dev maps when the dev map is developed with clean and minimalistic art. Many dev maps beginning with halo 4 are truly noisy. The over texture and over detail is indicative of poor design decisions. In all honesty halo 5 needed to show off xb1 capabilities (that resulted in truly bad looking maps), but h4 had no excuse and only served to show us "look at what I could do".
