Anyone remember farcryhub? That must have been the shortest existence ever. Oh well. it is far cry's developer's fault for not making a better organized map sharing system. Your thoughts?
I don't think the bad map sharing was the problem, the game itself was, farcry just played that bad that I had no passion for making a map that nobody will enjoy because of the game
I made like 3 maps, all of which I like to think were carried out pretty well to cater to intense and fun FC2 play. I just think that since I never had a chance to get it out to the masses, and nobody could find me, that FC2 failed as a whole
Woah, I actually remember that website. FarCry didn't exactly have the sharing capabilities (and fan base) Halo has, so the duration of the site is understandable.
That whole thing was funny more than anything, all those guys who thought they'd have the better Far Cry site and that FH was dead. I remember a bunch of **** talking too. Then it turned out that Far Cry 2 didn't take off as expected, so they all got screwed and we just went back to focus on being good ol' ForgeHub. it is sad that all that wasted work went into preparing for a switch though, a bit disappointing as well because we all had high hopes. also, why is there a thread about this? just wondering.
In order to play a custom FarCry 2 map, everyone (not just the party leader) needed to have downloaded the map. This is understandable, because the map is unique, and not just a variant of a base map that everyone already has (e.g. Guardian, Foundry, Sandbox). But how many people would actually go out of their way to download the map? Was there any sharing website with download links, like Bungie.net has? Plus, there was no in-game theatre mode, so you could only have pictures of your map if you had a capture card. So there were quite a few spam posts in the Far Cry forum on forge hub (does it still exist as a subforum?) So yeah, I remember it, as a failure. Forge has its faults, but it integrates with this website well. Far Cry didn't.
