I have been looking into purchasing a capture card, but i have since realised that there is alot of variety in them, and i have no idea on the type i should be getting and the kind of price i should be paying.

I live in the UK, so im sorry to American people, but i want to buy one from a UK website.

Can anyone help me with the 'type' of capture card i should be buying, or with the price i should be paying for a good one?

My xbox is positioned above my computer, so cables are fine. Im looking for reasonably good quality.

Pinnacle is probably one of the best for its price, and I'm pretty sure that they are sold in Europe.
I assume you've done your research and have decided on an external?
The one big problem I have with pinnacle stuff is that you can only capture using the pinnacle editing program, which is very mediocre, and it can be a pain to move a lot of clips around.
Also, what is your operating system?

    ::EDIT::
Pinnacles do have PAL(PAL/SECAM) support, so they will work.
The dazzle works fine for me, other then the occasional interlacing, which I have no idea how to stop. =/ Just make sure you can hook up the cap card through your TV, or you're stuck with a shitty little screen. I think a dazzle costs about 50 Euros(I saw 19.99 on one site, but I doubt it actually goes below 30 in stores).

    Also, I suggest looking here.

Im not very good with technology. To be truthful i dont even fully know how a CC works...

I have a Samsung LCD tv, its like 1 year old, so im sure it will be compatable.

I dont know what kind of CC i need. thats the thing.

Also i think i can remove interlacing on Sony Vegas.

If you're not good with tech, I suggest getting the external, like the dazzle(trust me, this thing might as well have a retard-proof seal). Or you can get an internal, and hire a proffesional to install it.
Externals work with A/V jacks, and a USB for the computer.
I suggest asking someone at a local Audio/Visual store, they usually know their stuff.
You may want to ask if there's such a thing as HD support(I have no idea, but you may want to cash in on that.)

Honestly, whenever I search for a capture card, it comes up Dazzle! Dazzle! Dazzle!
So, I'm sorry I couldn't reccomend anything else, but it does sound like it'll do the job for you.
Also, I did not know that SV could remove interlacing, interesting.

I sorted my computer out, and i put the gfx card in. It looks like some of the capture cards would go in the same kind of slot. I think im capable of that, i just dont understand the xbox / tv connectivity.

Ill have a look around interwebs.

Try digitalph33r's video, pretty much the whole thing(skip the first minute, or two if you just want a setup example) is about setting up your hardware.

No, you're not screwed. A splitter will work as well. It allows you to output the Xbox AV to both the CC and TV. Really all it does is allows you to play the game without the video lag because of the CC.
