Does anybody here do any 3D modeling? If so, post your models! I'm not really talking about something like Sketchup; more like 3DS Max, Maya, etc. Anyone?

I started not too long ago and have a lot to learn, but I've modeled several different weapons and such for things like Halo CE.

    AK-47 (put in a Halo 2 mod):

    Beretta Cx4 Storm carbine:

    Unfinished Mp5 from awhile ago:

Walther P99 (my very first weapon model -- extremely basic):

Halo 3 Trip Mine (made April 2007 -- only had a single reference image from before the beta was released):

    Uzi 9mm (very basic):

I used to, until it broke. Then having a flood wiped my computers memory. I didn't know of an image hosting websites existence then either.

Anyhow, there's a thread for this. Check the stickies. You should see a thread called "post your art." Post them there.

I thought that thread was for hand-drawn art.

It's for all around art. Unless it's a signature, or some kind of graphical art that you would like a review on, then it's the "Universal CnC" thread.

I'm not too sure, but ask a mod just in case.

3d modeling is a tough art, and I was fortunate in the past to know someone quite good at it. Once you start to get it down, you will quickly learn how to make detailed masterpieces, and it looks like you have a good start. I tried Blender when I was 12, and made a hand grenade and flashlight, but it was too hard so I quit XD

As for proper place for this, GA is fine, for where else would this go? It would be a shame to see it in Off Topic, and he is technically displaying art.

That thread is in the graphics and art forum, and is a sticky. Suits stuff like this very well.

I think he modeled it and took a screenshot. Just like in other games.

By the way my cousin does this a bit (too) professionally. He made a car for a racing game. It looked actually real, it was completely animated, sound etc.
Now he is world rank 3 of this game...
    He needz a girlfriend...

I made them in a 3D modeling program called 3ds Max. It's the most professional modeling software available; that's what the majority of movie special effects teams use. Most computer-generated monsters and such that you see in movies and video games are made in this program...and much, much more. True professionals can model just about anything and make it look real. For example, this room is completely nonexistent and was made entirely with a piece of computer software.

I started with nothing, and by using several reference images, I made these objects plane-by-plane. It's called "plane modeling."

I use Blender and GMAX(free 3ds to all who want to know) but ATM I'm not doing much I need to get back into it (that guy for that CGI scene is still waiting Yikes)

Is Sketchup difficult to use and plan out maps? Because I could easily create every Foundry object in 3ds Max and export the file so it could be edited in Gmax (which is free).

Would this be easier than using Sketchup to design maps? I'd gladly do it to help the community.

If you use sketchup you have to unlearn it later. I would just stick with 3DS and GMAX

I'm probably going to take an elective class for it. I don't know. Depends on whether or not "colleges look for that or not".

Wow, those are pretty cool. I always wished i could do 3D, maybe if i looked into it. But drawing by hand is what i'm mostly interested in and sometimes using photoshop or illustrator.

Someone has already created a file with the foundry layout and the few basic immovable objects for google sketchup. But that would be great if you did it for other maps, that would be amazing.

I do modeling too but the way i do things are a bit complex and time consuming, perhaps i should look into this "plane modeling". i've never heard of it before lol. i usually take one of the basic models (sphere, box, etc etc.) and use Edit Poly to make what i want. So, maybe this would be easier? perhaps you can show me where you learned how to "plane model".

There isn't much to learn you just use a plane and make it into the shape that you want. I use it mostly for terrain and that kind of thing every thing else is whatever primitive is closest to the finished shape.

That's "box modeling," which is much more difficult and pointless. Plane modeling is much more efficient. Try searching Google for plane modeling tutorials. I used a set of video tutorials in which some British guy modeled a Beretta handgun.
