What WhiteLime thinks First off i do think a backstory adds to the map but one like your i did not see a reason to read the GIANT block of text. maybe cut it down to like a paragraph or two. Now i realy like the look of the maps but i have to say that the hammer Shotty combo is not a great idea. I like the look of the tilted vertical boxes. and the little spot for the overshield.
Glad to hear you're working on some gametype tweaks, Aethos. You really put out some quality maps, but the lack of gametypes really strangles them all. Anomaly would be excellent for Oddball and KOTH, and even the little-played Jugernaut. It may be a bit small for even 1 Flag or 1 bomb, but other options besides just Slayer would really increase the lifespan of this small map. If you need help, let me know (BTW-the one Hill and Oddball spawn is under the main ramp, covered by the double box you have set to the 180s spawn time if you want to move/delete them). The other thing I might suggest if you're still tweaking, is adjusting your spawn placement. I'd say that almost all of them are facing in the four main cardinal directions. As a general rule this is good, but in this case some of them (and kudos to you for using almost all 100 spawn points) need to be rotated a bit in a direction that allows for the player to immediately move forward unhindered. For instance, on the main ramp, you've got one in a corner section that faces a direction that would cause the player to take two steps and fall to the main floor. I'd recommend that it be rotated to allow for movement either up or down the ramp. There are a few others like this that could be changed also. Just a suggestion. But the map itself is great. I still think Chimera is my favorite, but this is a very close second. The layout is excellent for a small, asymmetrical map. You've really got a talent for this type of design, all you need to work on really is the gametypes and you'll be golden.
Storylines can help with first impression. But once we hit the download button, we completely forget about all that stuff. Your map looks incredibly well put together. Weapon and spawn placements look fine. My only issue is that some areas of the map look bland. This may have been from lack of scenery. The areas for cover look a little 1 sided. But overall you have a solid map.
UPDATED: REMOVED HAMMER MOVED CUSTOM POWER UP MOVED SENTINAL BEAM MOVED NEEDLER REPLACED REGEN W/B.SHIELD; MOVED CHANGED INVIS RESPWAN=90 CHANGED SNIPER RESPAWN=60 ALSO: I understand some of you do not like to read, you do not appreciate the story, and you like to say "wall of text" a lot. Ignore it, move on, try the map, and comment on it instead. The story is there for people who appreciate that sort of thing (and there are some) and to add another dimension to a really mundane way of doing things. Some people could actually benefit from taking time and developing a written theme for their maps. Devoting a little more time would improve a lot of maps tremendously. That being said, thanks to Squidhands for the constructive feedback. I considered everything you said and made necessary changes. I hope to have VIP and KoTH variants soon after my next project.
This map is one of the coolest looking maps I've seen. You definitely have the Aesthetics down. Gameplay isn't the best IMO. But I love the look and it looks like you've spent a lot of time on it. Very Forerunner like to me. Keep up the maps though, I loved your vortex map.
You definintely got my Download because of the backstory. I'm a Halo fiend tho, i read all of the novels and most of the crazy backstory in halo 3 (the terminals). Your Backstory reads just about the same as those do. It was very creative. Oh and the map looks good too (maybe backstories sell too well) I'll let you know how it is after i played!
I will most likely very much like this map now that you have addressed certain issues. I'll get back to you on how it turns out..
I was going to work on some Forerunner map...and I was really inticed by your arches..of double boxes can you revile how you did that?
This is true, but just because someone is dedicated to their map doesn't make it a good one (NOT the case here, awesome map). You can find numerous people on the bungie forums with lengthy paragraph descriptions, but once you download the map its a bunch of thrown together boxes and bridges. I guess the point I'm trying to make is if you're going to have a lengthy and fun description, make sure you have the map to back it up. I think he's done that here.
Thanks DrawtheLine. The map itself is awesome. Gameplay: I may have to tweak it one more time and then I'm finished with it; good or bad. Has anyone turned down player speed on a map and had success with it? I'm thinking about knocking it down since I was playing with some people the other day and the action was non-stop. Thats usually a good thing but now on such a small map.
Personally, I skipped the whole story. I'm don't want to spend a lot of time reading a story only to find out that the map is garbage. I'm sure the story is cool, but I'm here for maps, not stories. That said, the map looks pretty sweet. I'm going to download it and check it out. Maybe I'll get a game in on it too. If the map rocks, I'll be back here to read the story. P.S. I usually read the whole thread before I reply but I did not this time. Sorry if I missed anything.
I actually did a Forge Through on this map this morning, and personally I don't like the flow of it. I will probably get a game going on this to see how it works out. The Aesthetic side of the map is very nice, I love the arches and all the interlocking.
Tell me what you think could improve the gameplay. I didn't spend as much time as I could have here. What would you think about limiting the map to only one powerup? It is small, I know, but nice to look at. I would love to make it more playable even though I have enjoyed playing others on it so far. Thanks.
Ok, a month or so afer I said I would get back o you and COMPLETELY forgot about this, (sry), I can say aftter I played V2 it played substantially better. I was overall very pleased with the end result and am glad o have played on this map.
the interlocking here is great and the story shows you put a lot of effort into this map. great job 9/10
haha, touche'! But as for my opinion, the map looks awesome, and the description is bloody amazing, keep up the epic tales, and i will be sure to follow!
